EMR Integration Engineering Intern (Spring 2018)
The EMR Integration team primarily focuses on products and services for OncoEMR, our web-based, oncology-specific electronic medical record (EMR) system used by over 1,300 oncology clinicians every day to diagnose, treat and manage patients battling cancer. The EMR Interface Engineers are the primary technical touchpoints for our cancer center partners who use our EMR. They work with customers to understand workflow requirements, develop HL7 interfaces, prototype reports, gather feedback and work with the broader Product Engineering team to identify and solve critical customer challenges. This is a 6-month internship opportunity.
As a Flatiron Interfaces Intern, you will:
- Learn how to work with customers, vendors and internal teams during discovery phase for workflow requirements, and how interfaces would fit in
- Assist with migrating legacy Oncology EMR interfaces to a new integration platform
- Work on multiple projects concurrently, monitor the status of tasks and escalate issues when appropriate
- Develop knowledge of healthcare industry integration standards (HL7, X12, NCPDP, etc)
- Develop presentations to communicate progress, share best practices and provide updates.
About you:
- You are passionate about our mission to improve cancer care through data and technology
- You have a demonstrated technical background (i.e. major in engineering, computer science, or have done programming/scripting on your own)
- You are a quick learner and can easily learn integration standards and technologies
- You have SQL experience or other query languages
- You have strong analytical and technical skills
- You are self-motivated, proactive and thrive in ambiguous situations
- You are flexible and adapt well to complex challenges
- You have strong project management, presentation, communication, and customer service skills
Bonus points:
- You have prior healthcare IT experience
- You have relevant experience/knowledge of healthcare integration standards
- You have scripting experience in TCL, Python or Perl
