About The Role:
We are seeking an Associate General Counsel to join our growing legal team. You’ll join Bowery Farming at a critical point in our growth trajectory and will make a significant impact at a rapidly growing startup producing food for a better future. You will interface with members of the company’s executive and business teams to manage, negotiate and execute on a broad range of corporate and commercial initiatives and the organization’s day-to-day operational needs and strategic priorities.
This position reports directly to the General Counsel and is based at our corporate headquarters in NYC.
What You'll Do:
- Draft and negotiate a variety of commercial and strategic agreements, including business development, real estate, vendor, supplier, procurement, master services, license, technology, confidentiality, and other operational and commercial agreements
- Assist General Counsel with corporate governance and corporate secretarial matters and the execution of strategic transactions, including equity and debt financings
- Lead or assist the Legal team’s efforts in the preparation, implementation, and refinement of forms, processes, and procedures
- Provide advice and counsel to business team leaders on all legal matters affecting the candidate’s areas of coverage, in consultation with the Legal Team and outside counsel, as necessary
- Build close relationships with personnel at supported business operations and obtain and maintain a strong knowledge of the products and objectives of those operations while helping the company scale
- Manage outside counsel
- Conduct periodic employee training on relevant matters
- Develop and maintain current knowledge of legal developments relevant to Bowery’s business
- Improve the Legal Team and support your Legal Team members
Who You Are:
- Experience from a leading law firm
- Admitted, active, and in good standing with the New York State bar
- In-house experience at a technology or consumer goods company preferred
- Strong general commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills
- Strong understanding of the interplay between legal and business risk
- Have excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- A multitasker with excellent analytical and legal skills
- Organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, and flexible
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Passionate about technology and energized by the challenges of serving a dynamic, hyper-growth company
- Ability to understand business needs and partner with the business to create solutions
- Highly analytical and have exceptional business and legal issue identification and problem-solving skills
- A strong and astute negotiator with impeccable judgment
- Ability to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a positive, “can do” attitude to the workplace and works collaboratively with other members of the legal team and with internal clients
- Have a strong desire to learn the business and new areas of law
