Shutterstock’s Communications Associate will manage and develop communications efforts and story development for the company and its business units. Working as part of the larger global communications team, this position will be responsible for finding and creating newsworthy stories, creating ideas in support of the business and our audiences, as well as developing media plans in support of the communications strategy.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Identify and develop newsworthy stories around the company that supports our long-term communications goals
  • Develop proactive publicity opportunities such as trend stories, industry or technological leadership, advancing the creative community, partnerships
  • Actively pitch the appropriate media and develop relationships with media, as appropriate
  • Research and draft press materials including releases, alerts, pitches and media lists
  • Pursue reporter queries, in a timely reactive fashion
  • Enhance the development and maintenance of department processes and procedures
  • Work with other team members and outside consultants in a goal-oriented manner
  • Work with events, social and marketing teams on trade show attendance, sponsorship opportunities, engagement tactics and external communications
  • Maintain the speaking bureau, and the speaker program

Requirements Skills:

  • 1-3 years relevant agency PR or journalism experience
  • Passion for results and sense of urgency to accomplish goals
  • Must be willing/able to travel 10% of the time, as needed
  • BA degree in related field – marketing, creative, communications or journalism.
  • Experience with public speaking and presenting

Preferred Skills:

  • Extremely detail oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline and results-driven environment.
  • Exceptional project management and creative problem-solving skills
