The Editorial Assistant is the foundation of daily leveling production at Newsela. They load, edit and source stories and images, working closely with freelancers and staff members on the Content Team to produce dozens of high-quality stories each week.

Responsibilities:

• Top edits at least 1 article per day with review
• Fact-checks when needed
• Adheres to AP style and Newsela Style Guide
• Sources stories for the website that will meet curriculum needs and engage students
• Loads at least 3 stories with beautiful images per day
• Pushes articles through the wire
• Does QA checks on headlines and first paragraphs from stories each day
• Provides helpful, detailed feedback for levelers

Requirements:

• Journalism, English or relevant degree from a 4-year university
• At least 1 year of experience working at a newspaper, magazine or digital publication
• Knowledge of AP Style

A Few Big Pluses

• Native or Professional fluency in Spanish
• Must be excited and energized working in a fast-paced startup environment. We need someone who can respond to and enjoy those all-hands-on-deck moments as we continue to grow and build out our business

• K-12 teaching or tutoring experience
