THE ROLE

The Network Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of networking in the Americas region including wide area networks (WAN), local area networks (LAN), OR problem solving, vendor interfacing and VPN/Internet communications. The candidate must be familiar with LAN/WAN topology including routers, switches, servers, bridges and gateways.

Communicates regularly with Global network team, IT management, and key departmental users on data communication requirements and the coordination of issues. Strong problem-solving skills required for resolving systems support issues. Structured work habits and good personal time management to effectively utilize the systems development methodology. 

Though an IC role, applicants should be well-suited to work autonomously while setting standards for other engineers and communicating regular updates to departmental leadership. This will be NYC’s first directly-employed network engineer role, and as such, successful candidates should be adept at creative problem solving and have experience with managed service or staff augmentation team structures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with the Global network team, IT management, engineering and key departmental users to analyze, design, install, configure, test and document new network hardware and software environment 
  • Tunes and upgrades the network for performance and security reasons, as well as to support functional enhancements. 
  • Provides technical support to infrastructure environments as required.
  • Uses effective problem-solving techniques, supports and recovers systems due to production problems to minimize the impact to the department or business. 
  • Monitors and evaluates network performance and reports to management.
  • Works with the Global network team and IT management to estimate time requirements for project assignments. 
  • Organizes projects and personal time to complete multiple, diverse assignments within the scheduled timeframe. 
  • Coordinates efforts with other IT personnel to ensure effective systems implementation.
  • Adopts and utilizes IT application tools to manage projects and support assignments. Cisco Meraki Network Switch knowledge and configuration.
  • Establishes a capacity growth plan for the network to ensure the best quality service in a contemporary environment.
  • Maintain proficiency in information technology and tools to enhance productivity and quality of systems administration.
  • Sets standards and controls the necessary infrastructure process of the organization. 
  • Evaluates new vendors and hardware and software products.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to the Sotheby’s Asia regional user base (typically break/fix items) and on-going technical sale support.
  • Travel to Sotheby’s Asia regional offices (Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Tokyo, etc.) to assist with hardware upgrades and local support when required.Provide on and off-site site auction sale set-up and support for all regional sales.
  • Provide project support where appropriate, including the implementation of new business applications and hardware, off-site sales, etc.
  • Update Freshservice as calls are progressed, and take responsibility for calls to closure, including liaison with appropriate IT colleagues and users

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • At least 3 years of network engineering experience at a company with 10+ locations
  • Experience deploying and configuring Cisco Meraki network appliance
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business or related area
  • 5 years of related technical experience with a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in end user support in an Office 0365/Win 10/Mac environment
  • Requires strong knowledge of Cisco routers and switches 
  • Experienced in Cisco Meraki Network Switch setup and configuration would be higher consideration
  • Requires strong knowledge of firewalls and web filtering solutions
  • Requires strong knowledge of Microsoft Server operating Systems and Enterprise Applications Exchange 2010, Office 365Working knowledge of some of the following Mimecast, AWS, Azure, Linux, DLP, Google Cloud Platform, MDM, JAMF Pro, Meraki configuration
  • Strong problem-solving skills required for technical issue resolution
  • Organized and structured work habitsStrong personal time management to coordinate several tasks simultaneously
  • Understanding of basic network protocols in particular and network architecture in general, sufficient to support and troubleshoot connectivity issues and to maintain the office network via WI-FI/cabling/hubs and switches
  • Understanding of mobile devices and platform (iPhones, iPads, Android, IOS etc.) in order to assist troubleshooting them within our corporate environment
  • Working knowledge of a helpdesk call logging system, sufficient to allow consistent input of all calls dealt with and analysis of such calls
  • Use effective problem-solving techniques, to support and restore normal service due to any production problems and to minimize the impact to the department or business
  • Maintain proficiency in information technology and tools to enhance productivity and quality of service provision
  • Strong communication skills, tactful, enthusiastic, confident, able to work independently as well as part of a team, and with a flexible approach to meeting changing business requirements
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends during sale and deadline periods

The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $45,000-$75,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
