About LearnVest:

LearnVest is redefining the American approach to personal finance. Our planners leverage financial technology to create simple, affordable, realistic plans for anyone who wants to feel confident about their money and optimistic about the future.

Since launching in 2010, LearnVest has been one of the premier financial technology companies in the country, helping thousands of people make progress on their financial goals. LearnVest was acquired by Northwestern Mutual in 2015 and is now scaling its technology and personal finance approach to help millions of people across both the LearnVest and Northwestern Mutual brands.

What you’ll do:

  • Play a fundamental role in building useful tools and effecting meaningful change for our Northwestern Mutual clients.
  • Directly support the Senior Product Manager in continuous innovation and iteration of our products and work closely with other team members including designers and engineers.
  • Become an advocate for our users, help define business/user goals of your features and product area(s), as well as develop the user stories that will serve as the foundation for what we build.
  • Collaborate in a deeply cross-functional way and develop relationships with engineers, designers, and other internal stakeholders: Roll up your sleeves and put your heads together to brainstorm requirements for new features and solution through thorny bugs.
  • Make data-driven decisions by getting to know your end users: Perform and use research to inform decisions and measure your success.
  • Prioritize issues and bugs on live, user-facing products, and document functionality and release information as necessary.
  • Build day-to-day like a start-up—incrementally and iteratively—with snacks, dogs, and a casual atmosphere but with the network and resources of an enterprise, Fortune 100 company.
  • Work with a talented, mission-driven, fun-loving team who values your input and your individuality.

What you’ll need:

  • Empathy for the end user: You are curious and compassionate. You have strong intuition about what makes a great product, but you also rely on qualitative and quantitative feedback to drive direction.
  • Listening skills: You seek out the opinions of others to inform your decisions, but are able to defend your own when challenged. You’re open to shifting your stance on something when you uncover new information.
  • Technical chops or digital fluency: You don’t need to be a software engineer, but you should be able to assess tradeoffs between technologies.
  • Bias for data-driven action: You know how to leverage data to make educated decisions when confronted by ambiguity. You may not have all the answers up front, but you figure out how to find them and ask the right questions.
  • Ability to learn quickly and think strategically: You can break down complex problems into smaller, actionable steps. You’re ready to jump right in and get your feet wet. You’re able to see the big picture and identify opportunities that strengthen the end-to-end experience.
  • Attention to detail: You are organized and pause to reflect and double check yourself so important details don’t slip through the cracks.
  • A knack for anticipation: You anticipate next steps and can manage multiple work streams in a fast-paced environment and shift priorities if you need to.
  • Storytelling and communication skills: You’re comfortable when presenting to large groups, whether that’s helping colleagues understand prioritization or drivers, convincing people to run towards goals, and managing multiple stakeholders across teams.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, analytical, or related field
  • 1-2 years experience in an analytical, dynamic, entrepreneurial role within software product management, management consulting, finance, a rotational/management training program, or startup company
  • A positive attitude and sense of humor

Bonus points for:

  • Experience working on a consumer software product
  • Experience working on an agile team
  • Experience in Tech and/or Financial Services
  • Experience working directly with designers and engineers

Our Benefits:

  • Fully stocked snacks, beer fridge, cold brew kegs, frequent catered lunches, company dodgeball team, and whiskey hours.
  • Tuition reimbursement, commuter plans, and paid time off
  • Highly competitive compensation that includes base salary plus bonus
  • Medical/Dental/Vision plans, matching 401(k), pension program
