Role

The Junior Product Manager will work directly with the VP of Technology. This role will work closely with our Operations, Sales and Marketing teams to ensure that we are delivering high-quality internal products. Externally, the role will work with customers and haulers to understand their requirements to drive system development. You will simultaneously manage multiple projects that span across many crucial business areas including both internal and external products.

You will take ownership of impactful projects from day one, working alongside our lead developer and leadership team on product strategy, development and deployment. Responsibilities

  • Work closely and facilitate meetings with key stakeholders such as Sales, Operations, Finance and Marketing to define feature specifications to build next generation products
  • Solicit and obtain feedback from customers and haulers regarding RTS technology and feed those requirements/suggestions back into the development cycle
  • Evaluate and translate user requirements into hardware and software specifications
  • Manage information technology projects including: budgeting costs, determining task durations, coordinating vendors and other project participants, monitoring and documenting project details using a project management tool (e.g. Microsoft Project)
  • Aid in the development of user guides and training materials for RTS products and services and assist in delivery of training on new system upgrades, enhancements
  • Establish and maintain effective, cooperative and professional working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work
  • Organize work and setting priorities to meet deadlines and working within prescribed time constraints
  • Investigate facts and review problems during design and planning phases, displaying an understanding of products and their functionality and present alternatives when needed
  • Work closely with engineering team to deliver releases in timely and predictable manner following SDLC using such methods as Agile
  • Assist the Product Owner in assuring products are well tested before the product is launched
  • Assist with other departmental tasks that include but not limited to: end user desktop builds, new email account creation, limited end user desktop support, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Have experience writing or developing requirements for software development through previous work experiences
  • 3-5 years of experience understanding, translating and gathering stakeholder requirements and building of functional specifications including mockups and prototypes
  • A firm grasp of the development lifecycle with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong project management skills and knowledge of Service Delivery Lifecycle (SDLC) and ability to manage projects through the SDLC to completion
  • Experience building software that includes end user focused navigation and layouts that work elegantly across commonly used browsers and devices. Ensures that system enhancements meet user needs (e.g. accuracy, functionality, efficiency, and security)
  • Works well within a team environment and has a positive attitude
  • Understands how to prioritize and meet deadlines, possesses strong project management and communication skills
  • Transportation logistics knowledge is a plus (similar to FedEx, UPS or Freight)
  • Plans and prioritizes work using resources and solves complex problems with minimal supervision; takes a new perspective on existing solutions; exercises judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information
  • Explains difficult or sensitive information in a diplomatic and patient way; works to build consensus
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding and ability to document the processes, objectives, and challenges within assigned customer accounts and evaluates IT solutions from the business’ perspective
  • Comfortable using a variety of techniques (e.g., brainstorming, visualization, collaboration) to generate innovative ideas; challenges boundaries instead of viewing them as constraints
  • Is highly flexible and can adapt to constantly changing priorities; does not get frustrated or flustered when business priorities shift and work priorities must as well, takes changes in stride and sees it as a challenge

Preferred Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or comparable work experience
  • 3 to 5 years product/service management experience

Technical Experience

  • Creation of system functional specifications
  • Intuitive user-interface web design and understanding of user experience practices and methodologies
  • Understanding of SQL table database structures
  • Understanding and exposure to reporting software i.e. Tableau
  • Project management skills including use of standard toolsets and reporting
  • Thorough understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies
  • Process mapping
  • ITIL Certification a plus

Software Experience

  • MSFT suite: PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Visio and Access in particular
  • Google suite
  • Trello

Work Environment

  • Office Location will be New York Office
  • Local travel may be required to attend meetings with customers, haulers, seminars etc.
