Overview:

Kaplan Test Prep has built a world-class learning and assessment platform called Atom to support all of its program offerings. After the tremendous success at Kaplan, we are looking to offer Atom externally as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Additionally, we offer Atom as a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) to internal Kaplan customers to build differentiation. 

Atom’s mission is to provide the global education industry with a simple, easy-to-configure toolset to create and deliver content and empower educators to unlock their learners’ potential and achieve their goals. 

About you:

As a Technical Product Manager for Atom,  you will play a key role in defining and building the platform. 

What does success on the Atom platform team look like?

  • You get the right things built and shipped

  • You are technically savvy and can work with technical leads and business stakeholders to ensure scalability of the platform and efficient services to support business growth

  • You champion for resolving technical debt, scaling platform components and improving performance. You do not see these as separate items on the backlog

  • You own failures but share successes

  • You know different tools and methodologies - and when to use them.  Lean UX, jobs to be done, hypothesis-driven product management, etc. are tools in your toolbox

  • You take risks and quickly embrace and learn from your mistakes

  • You are smart about data and use outcomes to measure the impact of initiatives

  • You believe in continuous delivery: shipping early and often, and learning as you go

  • You get platform product management, know how to balance end-user needs with customer and developer needs

  • You examine market conditions, the competitive and technology landscape, and gather input from stakeholders to evaluate, size and prioritize opportunities

  • You know your customers well and can speak passionately to their needs

  • You have a great eye for design

  • You are a combination of the maker at heart, systems thinker and storyteller who is able to listen to strategic and visionary input from business and team stakeholders, understand trade-offs in service of long-term goals and rally everyone together around a shared vision

What would you do?

  • Synthesize, organize and evangelize product strategy and roadmap for platform components by aligning team goals, company objectives, product vision, and customer feedback.

  • Guide teams to build features and run tests that connect to company goals. 

  • Visualize features through the lens of build-on capabilities by relying on APIs, SDKs, Libraries, etc.

  • Collect and communicate data coming out of experiments to the broader organization.

  • Measure progress toward goals and achieve target outcomes while driving continuous improvement.

  • Define Scalability goals for the platform components to support business growth and aspirations.

  • Identify customer needs, validate them with strong data, and prioritize requirements.

  • Create common functionality that spans multiple product lines.

  • Work with the UX and Engineering teams to ensure alignment across UX, Engineering and Product Management

  • Define MVP and manage tradeoffs and risks

  • Discover ways to use usage data and product analytics to inform prioritization decisions

  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the company 

  • Demonstrate excellent cross-group collaboration skills, including conflict resolution and negotiation skills

  • Manage and mentor a team of smart, strategic, and creative product managers

What do you need to have?

  • 7-10 years of technical product management experience in B2B, B2C context/API Strategy/Software delivery

  • 5+ years of experience as a product leader working with teams of 20+ people

  • Demonstrated ability leading product teams that partner effectively with engineering, UX and stakeholders.

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum

  • BS degree in CS or related field.
