Your Impact

The Product, Design & Engineering team at Hearst Magazines is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to help us solve problems, ease the burden of many manual tasks taken on from developers, deploy code and manage operations as we grow our new platform. The ideal candidate has experience across the full stack and is a self-starter who loves to code and is strong in Amazon Web Services (AWS).

You'll join a diverse, supportive community who are creating a modern content technology stack - built from the ground up - giving our clients and users tools that enable them to tell amazing stories and run their businesses more effectively. We're using modern web technologies to do this, like React, GraphQL, node.js and Python. We're building an open, service-oriented platform driven by APIs and belief in crafting simple, elegant solutions to complex technological and product problems. Our platform is built on AWS and Kubernetes with deployments automated through Slack bots.We're growing a game-changing modern content technology stack - built from the ground up to give our users, editors, and advertisers tools that enable them to tell amazing stories.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Develop and maintain infrastructure via automation.
  • Develop applications which help software engineers do their jobs at a faster pace with less overhead.
  • Work closely with development teams to architect and implement applications in a secure and highly available manner
  • Continued support and uptime of an API-driven, SOA-powered publishing platform/CMS and high-traffic public websites.
  • Troubleshoot and identify root cause of issues in a complex environment
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support on a rotating basis

Qualifications

Who You Are

  • Minimum 5 years professional experience deploying and supporting high traffic, scalable web applications/services
  • Minimum 3-5 years working in the AWS environment, including EC2, RDS, S3, IAM
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
  • Experience creating automation using AWS SDKs in Python, Ruby, or similar
  • Experience with Docker and container orchestration

The base salary for this role is between $129,000 and $165,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
