Philo is looking for a highly motivated executive who will be responsible for identifying, negotiating, and acquiring compelling content for Philo’s live TV product and leading relationships with key content partners. In this role, you will be able to put your passion, experience, and know-how to help shape the direction of Philo’s future content offerings and strategy.

About the Philo Content Team:

Philo’s content team is tasked with developing content and packaging strategy, maintaining programmer relationships, and negotiating licensing agreements. In addition, the team looks to create new lines of revenue for the company via expansion into new content verticals, supporting advertising initiatives, and other strategic partnerships.

Key Principles:

Innovation: This is at the core of everything we do at Philo, from Product and Engineering to Advertising and Support. The Content team shares this philosophy and is constantly looking for ways we can innovate in our deals, packaging structure, and overall strategy.

Deliver Value: This is the cornerstone of what we provide to our customers, and we evaluate all proposals through this lens. In a crowded market, products that deliver real value for their subscribers will succeed.

Win-Win Opportunities: In an industry that can be known for tense relationships, we approach all opportunities with our partners in mind. Deals are only good if Philo, our programming partners, and most importantly, our subscribers win.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead negotiations with senior executives at content companies (e.g. programmers, studios, production companies) supporting new and/or existing businesses to achieve Philo’s strategic and financial goals
  • Develop strategy for key content deals and renewals with 9-figure values based on audience insights and market dynamics and through leveraging your industry experience and expertise
  • Interface with the Philo executive team (CEO, COO, CFO) during major deals to drive consensus among stakeholders
  • Provide support in evaluating new business opportunities through market analysis, due diligence, cost/revenue forecasting, and defining product requirements
  • Represent content team interests on internal goal-based teams and participate in strategic planning process for content initiatives
  • Foster relationships with external partners as well as internal finance, legal, advertising, marketing, and engineering teams
  • Be an ambassador for the Philo brand by representing Philo at industry events and participating in speaking engagements

What You’ll Bring:

  • A passion for content and television and where the industry is headed
  • Comprehensive understanding of the media landscape, content trends, and distribution channels
  • Minimum 10 years experience in content acquisition/distribution or a similar field with a proven track record of negotiating complex, high-value deals for ad-supported television content
  • Established relationships with major programming groups, network owners, studios, and licensing companies
  • Proficiency in interpreting and using viewership and audience data in making content decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, from inception to completion, meeting deadlines and objectives in a fast-paced environment while maintaining an unwavering dedication to quality work
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to tailor messages across business, financial, product, and technical audiences at multiple levels
  • A leadership style based in ownership, empathy, and humility

An Insider's view of Philo

What's something quirky about your company?

That our brand persona actually reflects the ethos of the people that work at Philo. Our team is overwhelmingly and unabashedly filled with people exuding good natured energy.

Matt

Head of Brand and Creative Strategy

What projects are you most excited about?

I can't wait to see what we can do with Philo Connect! The majority of our viewing is on connected TV devices, but those are the clunkiest to interact with. A world where your phone seamlessly acts as an extension of the TV opens up so many possibilities.

Laura

Head of Support

What makes someone successful on your team?

People on my team who are curious, interested in problem solving and not afraid to ask questions are the most successful.

Just because something has been done in this industry a certain way forever, doesn't mean it shouldn't be challenged and investigated for improvements

Reed

Head of Advertising

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

Let them come forth with recommendations around how they want to spend their time, encourage them to get inspiration from outside of our company and outside of our industry. Give people room to try things even if I personally don't get it at the moment (i.e. providing safe spaces to experiment)

Nii

Head of Marketing

What’s the vibe like in the office?

The vibe in our office is upbeat and friendly. It's a judgment-free zone that balances dedicated work and socializing really well!
