These 6 NYC startups won't sleep until you do

Launching a startup takes time. While overextended entrepreneurs often end up working round the clock to jumpstart their companies, sleep becomes a rare commodity. But a healthy 8-hour slumber has the power to spark creativity and fuel productivity, which are necessities when building a company.

As a predictable result, the tech world is attempting to disrupt sleep. From sleep salons like YeloSpa, where New Yorkers can pay for a luxurious nap, to the fleet of new mattress companies that have taken over the city, the sleep space has become a burgeoning sector for startups hoping to appeal to the overtired entrepreneur.

Casper, the mattress startup that has already raised $70 million in venture funding, promises a great night’s sleep with its ultra-comfortable latex and memory foam design. A Casper mattress ranges in price from $500 for a twin to $950 for a king. Tailored to millennials, the bed-in-a-box startup works as an on-demand service, where mattresses are delivered directly to customers homes.

YouBeauty is an online platform that offers scientifically-proven quizzes and articles that measure and improve your overall health. For sleep related qualms, the site’s content runs the gamut of headlines such as “Here’s how to have healthy sleep posture” to “How to sleep when anxiety keeps you up at night.”

Another entrant in the ‘Mattress 2.0’ movement, Helix Sleep builds personalized, custom-built mattresses that are then shipped directly to consumers’ doors. The mattress design takes into account the customer’s height and weight, sleep positions and mattress-type preferences. In addition, the company provides customized designs for couples.

Eight provides a smart heating pad for your bed. The heating pad is designed with IoT technology that senses and analyzes your bedroom environment and sleeping patterns to best determine your ideal sleep temperature. Eight can be controlled from your smart phone to show you when your heating pad is warming, when it reaches an ideal temperature and when it automatically shuts off.

Shadow is a mobile application that helps users remember and record their dreams. While creative inspiration can strike any entrepreneur in their subconscious, this service can be extremely useful during a startup’s development. The app produces escalating alarms that gradually transition you through your hypnopompic state from sleeping to waking. Then, you can type, speak or answer questions that will help you record your dreams as soon as you wake up.

Bedphones are sleep headphone that help you get a better night's rest. These ultra-comfortable headphones employ a soft and flexible foam and rubber design to meet all of your sleeping needs.
