These 5 tech companies will help you earn a little extra cash

There’s no debating that living in New York City is expensive. Really expensive. But while the city’s prices run high and your bank account may be running low, New York remains a land of opportunity. Amidst the popularity of the on-demand economy and the rise of microentrepreneurship, making money on your own terms has never been easier. Before you get priced out of your $3,1000/month one-bedroom, check out the tech companies that may help you rake in some cash.

Moving out of your apartment? Nestie, an online platform that connects prospective tenants with departing tenants instead of a broker, will let you make a profit off of finding your landlord a new tenant. Using Nestie, the incoming tenant pays the departing tenant up to five percent of the annual rent.

For the craftier entrepreneur, Etsy is a great space to sell homemade goods. You can easily sell your hand-crafted jewelry or personal artwork by setting up a store on the popular e-commerce site.

Skillshare is a global peer to peer marketplace for teaching and learning. The platform doesn’t require any teaching credentials, and you have the option of either teaching locally in-person or globally online. Using this service, you can teach the world your expertise in anything from beer brewing to creating an app, all while getting paid.

Airbnb

If you happen to be leaving New York City for an extended period of time, consider renting out your place on Airbnb. But first, make sure to check that listing your apartment on the site is permitted in your building.

Vayable

If you’re a born and raised New Yorker, Vayable is a great resource for making money off your ingrained knowledge of the city. Vayable lets you become a personal tour guide, or a “Vayable Insider,” for travelers visiting the city. This is a great way to share your unique perspective on why you love New York while simultaneously building a business.
