New York’s tech companies spend less on travel and expenses than their Silicon Valley-based counterparts, a new study confirms.

Located in a neighborhood with lunch options galore and close to Bryant Park, Abacus is an easy walk to most subways and commuter trains!
, a New York-based expense management company, completed a study of 450 New York City and Silicon Valley-based tech companies. They found that, on average, California’s tech startups spent 1.4 times as much on travel and expenses as their East Coast rivals.

The differences are partly explained by the geographical differences in the two regions.

Silicon Valley-based startups pay more for parking, for example. After all, what's the point of having a shiny new Tesla if you have no place to charge it? Not that New Yorkers are taking the train. We were not only more likely to take an Uber than people in California, but we also paid way more for them.

Interestingly, California’s marketers aren’t using Facebook, while New York-based companies spent 59 percent of their advertising dollars on the platform. Silicon Valley marketers, meanwhile, are spending heavily on LinkedIn and very little on Facebook. Nobody spent much on Bing or Twitter.
