How these 4 startups make Fridays even better for employees

By the time Friday rolls around, it can be tough for anyone to be motivated at work.

While you might be exhausted from the week and ready for the weekend, these companies make Friday a little sweeter, and definitely a day their employees look forward to.

Grubhub is the nation's leading online and mobile food-ordering company dedicated to connecting hungry diners with local takeout restaurants. On-demand ordering app Seamless is a Grubhub subsidiary, and a weekly go-to service for many New Yorkers.

Friday Perk: Each Friday, the Grubhub team gets to work on something outside of their normal day-to-day work. This can be anything from learning a new technology, researching a new tool or working on a new project. Other cool perks include a weekly Grubhub credit, through which employees can eat from just about any restaurant in the city.

You’ve heard of BuzzFeed, the digital publisher that provides ultra-shareable breaking news, entertainment stories and video content across the social web. The company has experienced crazy growth since it launched back in 2006 and is now read by over 79 million people per month.

Friday Perk: While BuzzFeed now has offices around the world, having expanded to cities like Los Angeles, Sydney, Paris, Tokyo and London, the company was born in New York. To that end, it’s no surprise that BuzzFeed’s headquarters has ‘Bagel Fridays,’ which is exactly what it sounds like — free bagels on Fridays.

Smartly.io is a fast-growing social media marketing platform, focused largely on Facebook marketing. The company works with advertisers like eBay, BarkBox and JustFab to offer a full-suite of campaign management tools, optimization algorithms and reporting integrations.

Friday Perk: Smartly.io does product demos on Friday — with beer. The company’s other unique perks include weekly breakfasts, monthly sports events, five weeks of paid annual leave and the opportunity to rotate globally between offices for weeks or months.

Artsy offers the world’s largest online database of contemporary art, working with the world’s leading art galleries, museums, foundations, private collections, art fairs, auctions and artists. Artsy also provides original editorial content on art events around the world and offers insight into future and current exhibitions.

Friday Perk: Artsy has an office happy hour every Friday. The company also provides great perks such as health coverage, parental leave, commuter benefits, gym subsidies, a weekly team lunch and a fully stocked kitchen.
