10 startups that saw major success after Techstars NYC

Techstars NYC is known for producing some of the most successful startups around.

The program is a rigorous, metrics driven experience offering access to NYC founders and CEOs, top angel investors, venture capitalists and mentors with technical backgrounds. The program is part of the Techstars’ global ecosystem, which aims to empower entrepreneurs to bring new technologies to market.

A fresh batch of startups recently graduated that run the gamut from VR companies for streamable experiences to real-time transit direction apps. We’ve rounded up 10 Techstars NYC alumni that went on to see significant success after graduation.

 

Total funding: $28.22 million

Bluecore operates a customer experience platform where e-commerce marketers can use data and automation to speak with their customers. The company makes customer behavioral data digestible and actionable and now works with over 190 customers representing more than 250 high-end consumer brands. Bluecore graduated from Techstars’ Spring 2013 class.

 

Total funding: $4.08 million

Pilot is a new kind of internet provider. The company delivers ultra-fast fiber-optic internet with a 100 percent uptime guarantee, taking on legacy companies like Time Warner. The company is already used by a slew of notable businesses, including Bustle, Greycroft, DigitalOcean, Percolate, RRE Ventures, Bitly, Union Square Ventures, Change.org and General Catalyst Partners to name a few. Pilot graduated from Techstars’ Winter 2015 class.

 

Total funding: $9.73 million

IrisVR allows architects, engineers and designers to use VR to create true-to-scale renderings of architectural projects. The company participated in Techstars’ Winter 2015 cohort, and then launched in beta in 2016, immediately catching the attention of 45 of the top 100 global design and architecture firms with its first-of-its-kind virtual reality software.

 

Total funding: $5.91 million

LiveLike is one of the world’s first platforms that lets you watch sporting events in virtual reality from multiple angles. After participating in Techstars’ Fall 2015 cohort, the company quickly gained traction as a virtual reality pioneer, winning TechCrunch’s 1st and Future startup competition and $50,000 from the NFL.

 

Total funding: $84 million

ClassPass participated in Techstars’ 2012 Summer cohort and quickly went on to become majorly popular among workout enthusiasts in cities across the nation. ClassPass allows subscribers to attend not one gym, but many different studios and athletic facilities, providing a more flexible and experimental workout option.

 

Total funding: $56.4 million

Offering a unique take on food delivery services, Plated provides subscribers with a personalized farm-fresh box service, allowing customers to choose the recipes they want each week. Customers can even skip weeks of service and adjust the size of their order. Plated graduated from Techstars’ Spring 2013 class.

 

Total funding: $11.4 million

Jukely is a subscription for concerts. The service costs users $25 per month, and allows music lovers to get into a different show every day. Jukely launched out of Techstars’ Spring 2013 cohort.

 

Total funding: $19.1 million

Contently helps brands run their content marketing efforts. The company’s platform helps companies create, distribute and optimize their corporate content, as well as manage it all in one place. Contently came out of Techstars’ Summer 2011 cohort.

 

Total funding: $11.92 million

Nestio offers a marketing and leasing management solution for residential landlords and brokers. From top national management companies to boutique brokerages, thousands of multifamily professionals rely on Nestio’s software to manage their inventory from one place, optimize the tenant experience from prospect to close and drive more revenue. Nestio graduated from Techstars’ Winter 2011 cohort.

 


Total funding: $2.1 million

Spoon University is a media company that teaches millennials how to cook. The company’s content is visual and video-heavy, serving up headlines like ‘7 things you didn’t know you could do with peanut butter’ and ‘The 10 best frozen breakfast items from Trader Joe’s.’ Spoon University graduated from Techstars in the Winter of 2015.
