First hair loss, now migraines: Former Googlers launch second healthtech startup

You might recognize co-founders Steve Gutentag and Demetri Karagas as the brains behind healthtech startup Keeps, a platform dedicated to helping men with hair loss find the right treatment for them. Today, the former Google employees are back to launch another startup under the Thirty Madison brand — this time, with a different health focus: migraines.

Cove is a platform with a similar business model to Keeps: It’s an end-to-end solution that connects customers with experts who can diagnose and formulate a customized treatment plan for their chronic health condition. And because the company works directly with medical suppliers and physicians, they can provide customers with affordable FDA-approved treatment at a fraction of the cost of traditionally sourced prescriptions — a proven recipe for success.

By focusing on one issue at a time, the 16-person team is able to give customers the most relevant education and support they need to treat their condition.

Gutentag and Karagas decided to focus on migraines for their second venture because the condition affects an overwhelming number of people and has a myriad of underlying causes. As it is today, many people are either forced to make countless trips to the doctors office for an effective treatment plan, or they’re not being treated at all.

The company’s name refers to a protective shelter someone would seek in the rough seas, and as such, it serves to soothe and protect those who are suffering.

“We want our customers — many of whom suffer from multiple migraines each week and have found no support or treatment plan that works for them — to have that sense of safety and relief,” said Gutentag.
