Gaming studio Gojira Labs emerged from stealth this week with the launch of its animatronic non-fungible tokens, or aNFTs. ANFTs are a new type of digital collectible for the gaming industry that allows users to animate their NFT collections, such as profile pictures, to make them playable and interactive.
Gojira Labs is planning to collaborate with profile picture or “picture for proof” collections to adopt the aNFT format. This will allow picture for proof, or PFP, holders to unlock a playable version of their NFT as full-body characters, Gojira Labs said in a statement. Gojira Labs said some of the collections it is looking to support include Bored Ape Yacht Club, Sappy Seals, DeGods, CryptoPunks, Tezzardz and Reddit Avatars.
“We believe that animatronic NFTs can unlock new levels of entertainment and utility for avid NFT collectors and gamers alike,” Mark Soares, co-founder and president of Gojira Labs, said in a statement. “With aNFTs, we are bringing games to NFTs, not the other way around. Our mission is to leverage Web3 technology to help bridge the gap between the NFT world and gaming, and we’re excited to see what new experiences our technology will enable.”
Gojira Labs is working to fully automate its animation framework, which will make PFP collections with aNFT compatibility available as playable characters, according to the statement. ANFTs are currently supported on the Ethereum and Tezos blockchains.
Additionally, Gojira Labs plans to launch the first aNFT-compatible game called Sprinft as a multichain, multiplayer game. Sprinft will allow holders of supported NFT collections to compete against one another.
Gojira Labs is a team of gamers, creatives, artists, brand experts, developers and Web3 natives. Founded in 2022, Gojira Labs is an international company with a presence in NYC, a company spokesperson told Built In via email.
