As part of Spark Lab's ongoing series to spotlight the successful startups and technology companies that comprise our ecosystem in New York, this month we profile LINK3D, makers of additive manufacturing workflow software. I recently sat down with Shane Fox (Co-Founder & CEO) to discuss his business to date.
Why did you launch the company?
My singular focus has been to automate the Additive Manufacturing (3DPrinting) Industry allowing organizations to perform at the highest level. I’ve always believed that for Additive Manufacturing to reach maturity, certain levels of automation, AI, and big data must be integrated into the ecosystem.
What attracted you to NYC for market validation?
With Europe and North America being early adopters of 3D Printing, it’s a great location to stay on top of the market and just made sense.
Who did you raise money from?
We have raised money from some strategic partners and angel investors. In total we have raised $2.1M.
What's next for your business?
We are planning to scale up our business and set distribution channels in Asia and Europe over the next 18 months. As well as product launches and announcements.
Who are your customers?
Aerospace, Defense, Medical Orthopedic, Automotive, Oil and Gas, and Electronic companies.
What's the biggest obstacle you face?
Finding the right hires who are experts in the Additive Manufacturing space. This is a super fast-growing and changing landscape, so it’s important to find people who are well versed in Additive Manufacturing, but also eager to learn about new technologies and how to solve problems that will more effectively and efficiently increase workflow over a vast range of industries.
Where are you based?
Spark Labs – Union Square New York City (https://www.spark-labs.co/en)
How many employees do you have?
12
What has been the best moment you've experienced while running the business so far?
Every day has been the best moment, I really believe in living in the moment, and living life as if it was my last day on earth. I try to bring that mantra into my work life, personal life, etc. I’ve found it to be so important to be present while running LINK3D – everything changes so quickly.
From technology and things breaking, to new hires, fundraising, and networking. The entire startup world is really a living and breathing entity. I feel so lucky to be a part of it and surrounded by incredibly gifted and experienced business people and entrepreneurs.
What’s your favorite part of working in the NY tech scene?
It’s a sea of endless intellect, a city of doer’s not talkers.
