Participate in Markel’s underwriting training program by learning to review, analyze, accept, and decline risks while supporting profitability. Trainees will apply underwriting guidelines, communicate with managers, product leaders, analysts, colleagues, and producers, and gain exposure to data analytics and digital underwriting technologies. Successful trainees may transition into underwriting positions after completing the program.

Handles moderate- to high-complexity insurance claims for Program accounts, including coverage analysis, liability and exposure assessment, investigations, reserve setting, litigation and vendor management, negotiation, and settlement. Prepares coverage letters and reports, presents cases to senior leaders and underwriters, trains colleagues, manages stakeholder communications, and ensures timely, cost-effective claim resolution. The role requires independent decision-making, claims licensing eligibility, and travel to mediations, trials, and conferences.

Handles moderate- to high-complexity environmental, liability, life sciences, toxic tort, professional liability, and general liability claims. Responsibilities include coverage analysis, liability and damages evaluation, reserve setting, litigation and counsel oversight, settlement negotiation, mediation participation, claim strategy, regulatory compliance, reporting, and stakeholder communication. Provides technical guidance and training while making independent decisions within authorized limits.
