Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Associate Creative Director (UI/Visual Design) to lead a high‑visibility redesign initiative for one of the nation’s largest retirement fund and employer-sponsored investment providers. This role requires a hands-on design leader who can elevate, modernize, and unify a complex enterprise design system while guiding a distributed team across the U.S. and India.
You will serve as the visual execution lead for a major multi‑month transformation effort, partnering closely with our Group Creative Director to bring an evolved experience vision to life across digital products.
What You’ll Do
Lead Visual Design & Design System Modernization
- Evolve and modernize the client’s existing design system to meet contemporary visual, usability, and accessibility standards.
- Drive a refreshed visual language across typography, color, iconography, layout systems, and component-level execution.
- Ensure consistency, scalability, and best-in-class craft across all design deliverables.
Hands-On Visual Craft & Delivery
- Operate as both a leader and practitioner—diving into detail-level design work when needed.
- Review and refine visual assets, ensuring pixel-perfect execution and world-class polish.
Team Leadership & Distributed Coordination
- Lead and organize a distributed design team, including resources in India and U.S.-based UX and UI specialists.
- Assign, supervise, and coordinate work across visual design, UX design, and UI production roles.
- Provide day-to-day direction, feedback, and mentorship to ensure cohesive and timely delivery.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work directly with client-side design, brand, and development teams to align and implement design system updates.
- Support the Group Creative Director in translating the broader experience vision into actionable visual direction.
- Partner with UX leads to ensure brand expression enhances, not competes with, usability and interaction patterns.
UX Fluency & Design Integration
- Understand UX best practices, cross-channel patterns, and user-centered design principles.
- Advocate for design decisions that balance aesthetics, accessibility, and usability.
- Review and provide constructive feedback on both UI and UX deliverables, ensuring alignment between brand expression and functional experience.
What You Bring
- 10+ years of visual design experience, with deep expertise in digital product design for large-scale systems.
- Proven experience leading design-system evolution or modernization within a large enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire distributed, multi-disciplinary design teams.
- Strong hands-on craft: typographic systems, layout, grid, component refinement, visual QA.
- Comfortable working within Agile environments and partnering closely with client counterparts.
- Ability to articulate design rationale clearly to both creative and non-creative stakeholders.
- Experience working with teams in India or globally distributed design models is a strong plus.
- A portfolio showing world-class visual design, sophisticated systems thinking, and enterprise-scale problem solving.
