By leveraging innovative technology, automation, and data-driven insights, we’re transforming how complex property risks are evaluated and underwritten. As we continue to grow and expand into new markets, we remain committed to operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and delivering innovative insurance solutions.

Position Overview

Delos is seeking an Actuarial Analyst to support pricing and portfolio management for property insurance in climate-impacted markets. Reporting to the Lead Actuary, you will analyze insurance data, maintain and improve pricing tools, monitor portfolio performance, and help launch products in new states.

The ideal candidate has experience in personal lines insurance, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
This is a remote role, with our home office based in San Francisco, California.

Key Responsibilities:

·        Data Analysis and Quality: Collect, clean, validate, and reconcile quote, policy, premium, exposure, and available claims data. Investigate discrepancies and document data definitions and analytical methods.

·        Pricing and actuarial support: Assist with rate analyses, rating-factor evaluations, loss-cost assumptions, competitive benchmarking, and sensitivity testing. Help assess the effects of coverage, deductible, limit, and minimum-premium changes.

·        Excel tools and analytical models: Build, maintain, and improve pricing workbooks, analytical models, and reporting templates with clear formulas, documented assumptions, and reliable quality checks.

·        Climate and catastrophe analytics: Work with data science colleagues to understand proprietary wildfire and other risk-model outputs and support their use in pricing, risk segmentation, and exposure monitoring.

·        Product and state expansion: Support the development and launch of property products in new states by researching market conditions, state-specific hazards, competitor pricing, coverage differences, and available loss-cost information.

·        Rating validation: Calculate expected premiums independently, compare results with the quoting system, and help test rating changes before and after implementation.

·        Portfolio monitoring: Analyze production, conversion, retention, cancellations, premium changes, business mix, and geographic and catastrophe exposure concentrations. Support loss-experience and profitability analyses as reliable data becomes available.

·        Reporting and communication: Prepare reports, exhibits, and presentations for leadership and carrier partners. Explain findings clearly and identify issues or opportunities for further review.

·        Documentation and regulatory support: Help maintain pricing specifications, assumption logs, version records, approval exhibits, and launch checklists. Assist with rate filings and regulatory responses where applicable.

·        Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with underwriting, finance, product, technology, and distribution teams to answer business questions, improve workflows, and support new program development.

 Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent relevant analytical experience.

  • Zero to two years of relevant experience; recent graduates and candidates with internship experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong analytical skills and a foundation in statistics, probability, mathematics, and financial concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, lookup functions, conditional formulas, SUMIFS/VLOOKUP, charts, and formula auditing.

  • Effective written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pre-ACAS candidate actively pursuing the Casualty Actuarial Society credential, with one or more actuarial exams passed and demonstrated exam progress.
  • P&C insurance experience or an internship, particularly in property pricing, underwriting analytics, or catastrophe-related work.

  • Flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States
  • Unlimited PTO, including sick leave and company holidays
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance (25% paid by employee, 75% covered by Delos including dependents)
