POSITION SUMMARY
The AI Data Engineer builds and maintains data pipelines that deliver clean, reliable data for machine learning and analytics. The role uses SQL and Python to transform raw data into production‑ready datasets and supports model deployment with stable data flows. It also assists with Generative AI needs, including vector databases, RAG workflows, and unstructured data ingestion. Overall, the position ensures the data foundation required for scalable AI and automation across the organization.
DESCRIPTION
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Data Pipeline Engineering: Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines that support machine learning model development, deployment, and monitoring.
- Extract, clean, and transform large datasets using advanced SQL and Python to produce high-quality feature sets and curated analytical datasets.
- Monitor data pipelines and downstream dependencies to ensure reliability, performance, and data quality for production models and reporting.
- Partner with data scientists, ML engineers, and product managers to operationalize models, supporting data versioning, reproducibility, model inputs/outputs, and production data dependencies.
- Build and optimize data pipelines for Generative AI applications, including managing vector databases, implementing RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) data patterns, and automating the ingestion of unstructured data for model fine-tuning. (strong)
- Learn and apply data engineering best practices within the financial and lending domain, with mentorship provided regarding specific regulatory compliance standards.
- Ability to effectively and accurately convey information to others.
- Performs related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field or technical field.
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a closely related role.
- Prior mortgage experience is a plus, but a proven ability to engineer high-quality data solutions is key.
- Expert proficiency in SQL and strong experience with Python for data processing and automation.
- Understanding of API-based model integration (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) and AI orchestration frameworks to design data architectures that ensure high-speed model responses and seamless real-time AI consumption.
- Must possess strong proficiency in Python and SQL.

- Familiarity with machine learning workflows, feature engineering, and production data requirements for ML systems
- Hands-on experience building reliable data workflows, ideally using big data tools and cloud platforms.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Working on-site at assigned office location.
- Regular and punctual attendance adhering to schedule established by leadership.
- Flexibility to work occasional adjusted work schedules, overtime, and evening and/or weekend hours to meet deadlines or as business needs demand.
- Working in a cubicle hub, maintaining focus on phone calls in a noisy environment within earshot of multiple other conversations.
- Sedentary work in a stationary position at a cubicle for prolonged periods of time.
- Constant repetitive motions required for operating a computer, such as typing and managing phone calls.
- Constantly communicating effectively verbally in English, including accurately exchanging information with others following identification of correct procedures.
