Newsweek is the global media organization that has earned audience time and trust for more than 90 years. Newsweek reaches 100 million people each month with thought-provoking news, opinion, images, graphics, and video delivered across a dozen print and digital platforms. Headquartered in New York City, Newsweek also publishes international editions in EMEA and Asia.

Newsweek is looking for a forward-thinking and visually driven AI Visual Content Producer to create dynamic multimedia content using innovative generative tools. As part of a broader effort to reach new audiences and elevate our visual storytelling, this highly creative and experimental role uses generative AI tools to create compelling, scalable content across editorial, branded, and digital platforms.

The ideal candidate will blend editorial instinct with technical ability in GenAI tools to craft videos, illustrations, data visualizations, and explainers. This person will sit within the Multimedia team, collaborating with producers, designers, and editors to scale high-quality, brand-safe content using the latest AI platforms — and help prototype new storytelling formats for the future while upholding Newsweek’s journalistic integrity, legal standards, and brand consistency. Taking a hands-on approach is a must.

Key Responsibilities:

AI-Enhanced Multimedia Content Creation

  • Produce videos, illustrations, animations, and visual explainers using tools like Runway, Pika, HeyGen, Synthesia, Descript, and Canva.
  • Ensure all content is visually polished, platform-optimized, and aligns with Newsweek’s brand and editorial standards.
  • Adapt outputs for various channels, including web, YouTube, Instagram, and other social platforms.

Prompt Engineering & Workflow Innovation

  • Write optimized prompts to generate high-quality results across GenAI platforms for image, text, video, and voice — including ChatGPT and ElevenLabs.
  • Prototype and test emerging tools to improve speed, quality, and production scalability.
  • Build repeatable AI workflows to increase output efficiency and reduce bottlenecks.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with producers, editors and designers across the multimedia, editorial and content teams.
  • Integrate visuals seamlessly into larger content packages, including explainer pieces, news stories, and social posts.
  • Coordinate with product and technology teams to ensure AI-generated content can be surfaced and integrated into website infrastructure.
  • Stay responsive to the needs of multiple stakeholders while maintaining creative standards.

AI Standards, Legal & Ethical Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with copyright, fair use, and GenAI legal guidance in all content.
  • Follow ethical best practices in GenAI storytelling, including proper labeling, attribution, and bias mitigation.
  • Maintain a working understanding of how each tool generates its outputs and related risks.

Knowledge Sharing & Enablement

  • Create prompt libraries, templates, and internal guides for GenAI tools.
  • Support training efforts across editorial and multimedia teams through demos, tips, or documentation.
  • Serve as a go-to resource for GenAI experimentation and best practices within the newsroom.
  • Any other requirements that meet the needs of the business

Qualifications:

Required Experience

  • Significant experience in visual content creation, multimedia, or digital journalism, with relevant experience using GenAI tools.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates AI-generated visuals and/or experimental formats.
  • Enthusiastic about staying ahead of trends in AI, multimedia, and digital storytelling.

Technical Fluency

  • Proficient in tools including ChatGPT, Pika, Runway, HeyGen, Synthesia, Descript, Photoshop, Canva, and ElevenLabs.
  • Understanding of prompt engineering, multi-tool workflows, and content optimization for digital platforms.
  • Strong skills in traditional creative software including Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Canva, and Illustrator

Creative & Editorial Strengths

  • Strong visual editorial judgment and storytelling skills tailored for digital and social platforms.
  • Creative thinker with a sharp eye for detail, pacing, tone, and design.
  • Strong video editing and storytelling skills with attention to pacing, transitions, and visual cohesion.
  • Organized, self-directed, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Must be adaptable and comfortable with shifting priorities, evolving tools, and tight deadlines in a rapidly changing GenAI landscape.

Preferred

  • Experience navigating copyright, fair use, and ethical implications of AI-generated content.
  • Understanding of platform-specific content needs (e.g., YouTube, TikTok, Instagram).
  • Able to work in a compatible schedule to work with U.S. and U.K. editorial teams.

Salary range: $60,000 - $70,000 commensurate with experience
