About the Role:

The Alternative Investment Compensation Manager is responsible for designing, managing, and analyzing compensation programs for professionals in alternative investment roles, including private equity, hedge funds, real assets, and other non-traditional asset classes. This role ensures alignment with firm-wide compensation philosophy, regulatory requirements, and market competitiveness, while supporting talent attraction, retention, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compensation Strategy & Design

  • Develop and implement compensation frameworks tailored to alternative investment professionals.

  • Partner with senior leadership to align compensation structures with business objectives and investment performance.

  • Design incentive plans including carried interest, co-investment programs, deferred compensation, and performance bonuses

  • Market Benchmarking & Analysis

  • Conduct market research and benchmarking using compensation surveys and proprietary data.

  • Analyze compensation trends across private equity, hedge funds, and other alternative asset classes.

  • Provide insights and recommendations to ensure competitive positioning.

  • Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure compensation programs comply with relevant regulations (e.g., SEC, IRS, ERISA).

  • Support audit and risk management processes related to compensation governance.

  • Maintain documentation and controls for compensation-related policies and procedures.

  • Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, Legal, and business leaders to support compensation planning and execution.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on alternative investment compensation structures.

  • Communicate complex compensation concepts clearly to stakeholders.

  • Operational Excellence

  • Manage compensation data, reporting, and analytics for alternative investment teams.

  • Support annual compensation review cycles, including budgeting, modeling, and approvals.

  • Leverage technology and tools to streamline compensation processes.

Requirements of the Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Human Resources, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

  • 5–10+ years of experience in compensation, finance, or investment management, with a focus on alternative investments.

  • Strong understanding of carried interest, co-investment, and incentive structures.

  • Strong proficiency in Excel, compensation modeling, and data analytics.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and project management skills.

  • Experience with compensation survey providers (e.g., McLagan, Mercer, Preqin) is a plus.

  • Familiarity with EWM Global platform and its functionalities, including portfolio accounting, performance measurement, and reporting tools, is a plus

The salary range for this position in NYC is $150,000 - $175,000/year. The total compensation offered for this position includes salary and incentive pay and will vary based on skills, experience and location.
