MLB is looking for an Analyst, Fan Data based in its New York City headquarters. This entry-level role will leverage our extensive fan data to develop a deeper understanding of fan behavior, inform strategic decisions, and drive revenue and audience growth. This position will analyze fan data across many sources, such as ticketing, marketing, digital platforms, and merchandise sales, to create a holistic view of our fans. Strong technical skills and a desire to grow and monetize MLB’s businesses are required to translate complex data into actionable insights and next steps. The ideal candidate will be passionate about baseball and prefer working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and collaborative environment.

Qualified candidates will be familiar with baseball and macro trends within the sports, media, and entertainment industries. They will be eager to leverage their technical skills to contribute to MLB’s data initiatives and research programs. They will have a demonstrable ability to collect, analyze, and communicate both quantitative and qualitative data to Club and MLB stakeholders. They will be proficient in descriptive and inferential statistics. They will have strong experience with relational databases, knowledge of data-relevant programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R), and comfort with data science pipelines. Most importantly, qualified candidates will possess a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in building, optimizing, and supporting statistical models that link fan behavior to business outcomes
  • Maintain and scale data pipelines that ensure the efficiency and reliability of deliverables to business stakeholders
  • Support MLB’s business owners by conducting data projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Effectively build relationships and collaborate with team members from Clubs and the League Office on projects and initiatives
  • Create presentations, data visualizations, and dashboards to communicate results to stakeholders

Qualifications and Skills

  • An undergraduate degree in an analytical field (economics, mathematics, statistics) or significant coursework in data analysis
  • Some to 2 years of professional experience working in a data science or analytics-related field, with demonstrable examples (internships and coursework counts)
  • Knowledge of data science and analysis techniques, along with relevant programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R)
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts and techniques a plus 
  • Ability to coordinate and organize multiple projects and analyses simultaneously.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with baseball and macro trends within the sports and entertainment industry

Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.
