Android Engineer

Location: NYC (in office 3 days per week)

We’re looking for an Android Engineer to join our early stage team. We've already launched on iOS and now we're bringing Trove to Android, which means you'll build our app from its earliest foundations. You'll work closely with the founders, product, design, and engineering teams to shape our new app from the ground up. Your contributions will meaningfully influence the direction of the product, the engineering culture, and the standards we set as we grow.

We're looking for someone who thrives in the energy of a founding team where priorities evolve, constraints are real, and momentum matters. You should be excited to roll up your sleeves, make critical architectural decisions, and build systems that support rapid product evolution without compromising the user experience.

The right person has strong empathy for the end user and appreciates clean, functional design. You should care about craft, performance, and the details that make an experience feel effortless. This is a hands-on role in a fast moving environment where ideas turn into shipped features quickly, and where you'll help determine not just how things are built, but how they function and feel.

On any given week, you might:

• Architect core product systems that will scale long term

• Design and implement high-fidelity, animation-heavy user experiences

• Partner with Product and Design to turn ambiguous ideas into clean, intuitive flows

• Ship experiments quickly, then iterate and expand on what works

• Improve app performance, responsiveness, and reliability at scale

• Implement networking layers and real-time updates that power live marketplace activity

• Make thoughtful tradeoffs between speed and maintainability

• Set the bar for code quality, architecture, and engineering culture

You have experience and success in these areas:

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose

• Shipping and scaling a highly interactive consumer app

• Standing up or substantially shaping an Android app from an early stage

• Building complex, stateful interfaces that feel simple

• Owning features end-to-end, from design through launch

• Collaborating closely with founders, designers, and backend engineers

• Moving forward with incomplete information and executing despite ambiguity

• Building for marketplace, fintech, gaming, or social apps

• Trove has a top-tier, category-defining Android app

• Complex actions like buying, opening, selling, and redeeming feel simple and intuitive

• The Android experience feels native to the platform, and reaches parity with iOS without sacrificing quality

• The app is fast, stable, and scales cleanly

• Our architecture supports rapid iteration without accumulating technical debt

• Engineering quality becomes a visible differentiator for the company

• The experience feels polished and intuitive, with a level of design quality users recognize and trust
