Company Overview

Red 6 is an innovative Augmented Reality (AR) technology startup leading the way in synthetic air combat training. Our primary technology, supporting our ATARS product, enables pilots to simulate the cognitive challenges of flying while accessing realistic, scalable training in dynamic outdoor environments.

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled APQP Engineer to drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities in accordance with AS9145 for aerospace hardware development. This role will ensure quality and compliance within the framework of AS9100, supporting the design, integration, testing, and sustainment of augmented reality (AR) systems for pilot training. The APQP Engineer will collaborate across engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing teams to ensure that aerospace-grade reliability, safety, and quality standards are achieved from concept to deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • APQP / PPAP Execution

  • Lead and manage APQP activities in compliance with AS9145, including planning, execution, and continuous monitoring throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Develop, review, and approve PPAP documentation (Control Plans, DFMEA, PFMEA, Process Flow Diagrams, MSA, Capability Studies).

  • Support supplier readiness reviews and ensure manufacturing processes meet aerospace quality standards.

  • Quality Assurance & Standards Compliance

  • Ensure quality processes meet the requirements of AS9100 and customer/regulatory standards.

  • Conduct audits, reviews, and assessments to validate compliance with AS9145/AS9100 requirements.

  • Drive corrective and preventive actions to eliminate defects and mitigate risks.

  • Hardware Quality & Test Support

  • Oversee hardware quality assurance across design, integration, and system-level testing.

  • Establish and track quality metrics for AR hardware performance and reliability.

  • Provide root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality escapes during prototype builds, lab integration, and field support.

Cross-Functional & Supplier Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering teams to embed quality requirements early in product development.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure robust production processes and conformance to AS9145/AS9100.

  • Act as a customer-facing quality representative for program reviews and audits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Aerospace, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).

  • 5+ years of aerospace quality engineering experience, with proven knowledge of AS9145 (APQP/PPAP) and AS9100.

  • Hands-on experience with APQP core tools: FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, and PPAP deliverables.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead supplier quality engagement and customer-facing quality processes.

  • Strong skills in root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions (RCCA), and risk management.

  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with augmented reality, virtual reality, or avionics hardware in aerospace or defense applications.

  • Knowledge of systems engineering, hardware/software integration, and test environments.

  • Familiarity with configuration management and change control processes.

  • ASQ certifications (CQE, CQA) or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.

Full-Time Employee Benefits

  • Healthcare, Dental, and Vision (100% coverage for Employees)

  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick, paid holidays, and parental leave

  • Short and Long-Term Disability

  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
