Position Overview:

The Assistant Vice President, Program Manager – Portfolio Solutions will support underwriting strategies and the P&L outcomes for the Portfolio Solutions Group (PSG). This underwriting division of Ascot U.S. focuses on establishing relationships with Program Managers and other aggregators and offers a variety of solutions to these customers including risk assumption, fronting and other related services. 

Responsibilities:

Underwriting Strategy

  • Support PSG by identifying target specialty classes of business that complement our various direct underwriting operations and align with the desired mix of businesses between short, medium, and long tail business. 

  • Building a balanced portfolio across various specialty segments.
  • Align to all reinsurance, operational, actuarial, risk and claims strategies and protocols.

 

Distribution Management

  • Support the established distribution plan.

  • Support the identification of target relationships and work to cultivate these in pursuit of growth objectives.

 

Program Management

  • Participate in the due diligence process for new programs in co-ordination with Project Manager. 

  • Support the establishment of client service standards at the inception of each portfolio opportunity.

  • Negotiate and maintain all Program Management Agreements per Ascot standards.

  • Conduct regular audits as per the agreed schedule with portfolio partners.

  • Manage assigned referrals outside of delegated authorities. Such management may include collaboration with key underwriting personnel residing in other Ascot divisions.

  • With the support of various Ascot teams, conduct regular portfolio analysis, peer review and measurement of key performance indicators as established at program inception.

  • Summarize findings and implement underwriting strategies to maintain profit objectives.
  • Establish and maintain a robust, efficient, and modern operating platform.

  • Engage with Legal, IT, Claims, and other support services to ensure a robust operating platform in the due diligence, onboarding, and oversight phases.

Requirements:

  • Strong underwriting and portfolio management skills. 

  • 7 plus years of experience in program/underwriting management. 

  • Experience with Casualty or Property required. 

  • Excellent communication, organizational and time-management skills.

  • A self-starter, who is comfortable working independently and “rolling up their sleeves” and working collaboratively as a team.

  • Strong analytic skills across core finance, actuarial concepts along with strong data skills.

  • Ability to travel on business as needed.

Compensation

Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, and skills. The base pay is just one component of Ascot’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus and other forms of discretionary compensation awarded by the Company. 

  • The annualized base pay range for this role is:  $170,000 - $190,000
