The Role: Associate Director, S&P Global Corporate Strategy

The Team: You are part of the larger Strategy, M&A and Investments Team reporting to the Global Head of Corporate Strategy.  Specifically, this role focuses on our S&P Global (SPGI) Corporate Strategy supporting a broad range of strategic activities for a business of approximately $14billion in revenue and over 40,000 employees worldwide.  Our team partners closely with all divisions, finance and enterprise functions.   As part of a larger enterprise team, you will contribute towards the establishment of strategic growth priorities and plans, and directly help define, tracking and discussing performance at the most important projects and key business metrics with the S&P senior leaders. You will be directly involved in several of the most important strategic initiatives, helping accelerate progress and solve problems along the way. 

The Impact: The Associate Director, Corporate Strategy is a critical member of the Strategy team and the broader Finance, Strategy, M&A, Corporate Development and Partnerships community.  You will help drive the near- and long-term strategic objectives for the business and engaging the Enterprise Leadership Team.  You will participate in multiple complex projects of significant impact at one time, often across departmental boundaries and geographies.  You will manage the research and the presentation creation process, and will support senior leaders in presenting topics of relevance to the S&P Global management team.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute on a broad range of strategic projects, formulating strategic recommendations and obtaining stakeholder buy-in. 

  • Work with leads in corporate strategy and senior management to define and set goals through the annual strategic planning process.  

  • Develop actionable recommendations that support the business strategy and goals.  Work with the senior members of the team to plan and implement recommendations and contribute to the building of trust and consensus building. 

  • Develop business and operational action plans and work with peers, senior management and stakeholders to drive implementation. 

  • Participate in the articulation of the S&P Global strategy in a clear and compelling strategic narrative to key stakeholders, tailoring messages depending on executive audience. 

  • Participate in the preparation of communication of SPGI strategy and updates to the board of directors and to the investor community, occasionally and gradually assuming a central role in presentations. 

  • Work with the M&A team and Chief Client Office colleagues to support strategic assessment and profiling target companies for acquisitions, joint ventures and alliance partnerships. 

  • Participate in scenario planning, case studies and modeling capabilities to strengthen the strategy. 

  • Analyze businesses and opportunities to assist the company in executing strategic decisions. 

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies. 

  • Participate in the identification of changes in market conditions, industry trends, regulatory environment, regional or country macro-economic factors, etc., which may require changes to strategic plans, including the progression of technology and its effect on strategic plans. 

  • Be an advocate for an enterprise mind-set.  Seek to be a role model, educator, coach, mentor across the wider organization.   

Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $122,865 to $245,161 USD. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree. 

  • 6+ years of relevant experience including but not limited to management consulting, financial analysis, M&A modelling and execution, strategy, and/or senior executive exposure and support. 

  • Demonstrated ability to drive workstreams and large portions of projects with significant strategic impact. 

  • Superior strategic and analytical skills with ability to draw key insights and develop clear recommendations. 

  • Highly motivated, demonstrated ability to take initiative and ability to influence senior leaders. 

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. 

  • Excellent communication and relationship management capabilities, including strong executive level PowerPoint skills and ability to summarize strategic rationale succinctly and clearly. 

  • Solid business acumen with knowledge and awareness of the financial data industry and markets. 

  • Preference given to candidates with previous relevant experience in or interacting with a publicly listed company with global operations. 

  • Preference to candidate with knowledge of application of AI to financial services, emerging technologies, and experience developing technology strategies.
