The Monad Foundation is a team of dedicated ecosystem and community builders who are on a mission to massively grow the impact of decentralized tech. We believe that the Monad blockchain--the performant and parallel EVM Layer 1--will help decentralized apps eat the world.

The Role

The Monad Foundation is searching for an Associate General Counsel to join our growing legal team. You will report to the General Counsel and will have autonomy, career growth, leadership visibility and fun. You are an intellectually curious, high work ethic and practical problem solver with a mixture of law firm and in-house experience. You understand the big picture but roll up your sleeves and get granular. You are low ego and highly capable. This role is in the epicenter of crypto and blockchain innovation, uniquely positioned for high impact.

What You Will Do
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Provide comprehensive legal support across the organization, including BD, ecosystem, growth, engineering, finance and operations, to support business growth and ensure legal alignment with Foundation goals.

  • Transactional: Draft, negotiate and manage a diverse array of agreements for the Foundation, including collaboration agreements, grant agreements, services agreements, SaaS agreements, sponsorship agreements, confidentiality arrangements and more.

  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with transactions, operations, and strategic initiatives.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Advise and implement policy as it relates to cutting edge regulatory matters impacting the Foundation and stay abreast of rapidly evolving regulations in the crypto, web3, or fintech sectors.

  • Utility Player: Ready to dive into whatever issues may arise from transactional work to employee matters to intercompany matters.

  • Efficiency Optimization: Help develop operational processes and tools to empower the Foundation to move quickly and execute effectively, while mitigating risks and maintaining a strong commitment to compliance.

Who You Are
  • Professional Experience: 6+ years of relevant legal experience for AGC/4+ years of relevant legal experience for Senior Counsel with a mixture of law firm and in-house experience.

  • Education/Licensing: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one bar of a relevant jurisdiction.

  • Skillset:

    • Deep understanding of blockchain ecosystems across verticals (e.g., DeFi, RWAs, tokenized assets, NFTs, gaming, payments) as well as the relevant regulatory implications.

    • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on helping internal teams take smart risks.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal issues in a clear, concise manner to deliver results-oriented legal advice.

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, innovative environment, effectively organizing, prioritizing, and managing diverse stakeholders and time-sensitive projects.

    • Strong attention to detail and business acumen.

    • Able to exercise high judgment and integrity in ambiguous environments.

  • Industry Interest: Demonstrated experience and/or strong interest in crypto, web3, or fintech is a significant plus.

  • Importantly: You enjoy getting stuff done.

Why Work with Us
  • Challenging problems. You’ll work on extremely challenging problems with massive impact.

  • Huge opportunity. The Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) standard is ubiquitous, but existing EVM-compatible chains are slow and bandwidth-constrained. Monad’s core innovations offer developers the best of both worlds (portability and performance) and are a game-changer for mass user adoption in crypto.

  • The right team. You’ll be part of an exceptional and highly-motivated team

  • Culture. We’re a lean team working together to achieve very ambitious goals. We are united in our culture of collaboration, low ego, and high-quality output. As an early member of our team, you’ll help continue to shape our culture.
