What You’ll Do

We’re looking for a detail-oriented, technically curious engineer with a software background who is excited about robotics and automation. As an Associate Quality Engineer (SW), you will work alongside experienced engineers to build and maintain test automation, validate software releases, and help ensure Standard Bots products meet the highest standard of quality.

This is a junior level software engineering role within the QA origination. This role is ideal for someone who writes code everyday and wants to apply those skills to quality, reliability and test infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Write, maintain and extend automated test suites (end to end, integration and regression) for Standard Bots’ Software stack.

  • Develop and improve test automation frameworks

  • Build internal tooling and scripts to support QA workflows (log parsing, data extraction, test reporting)

  • Execute manual and automated regression testing across software releases to catch regressions before they reach customers

  • Collaborate with developers to reproduce isolate and document defects with clear reproduction steps and supporting data

  • Review feature specifications and PRs for testability and edge case coverage

  • Contribute to test case design as new features ship ensuring functional coverage across complex robotic environments

  • Participate in release QA processes, including gated test runs and release candidate validation.

Skills You'll Bring
  • Technical Foundation: 1–3 years of software engineering or test automation experience (or equivalent educational background). Comfortable writing code in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Bash or similar languages.

  • Test Automation: Familiarity with test frameworks (e.g., Playwright, pytest, Jest) and CI/CD concepts. Experience writing automated tests is strongly preferred.

  • Scripting & Tooling: Ability to write utility scripts for data processing, log analysis, or workflow automation. Comfortable working in Linux/CLI environments.

  • Version Control: Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows.

  • Growth + Optimism: You are excited by new domains and challenges, and eager to pick up new context to accelerate your impact.

  • Clarity of Communication: You excel in written and verbal communication and enjoy leveraging your skills to support your peers.

  • Impact Driven: You relentlessly seek user impact and value execution over technical idealism. You prioritize simplicity, reliability, and velocity and proactively identify opportunities to improve systems.

Who You Are

We're looking for engineers who are self-driven, optimistic, creative, and resourceful. We have no requirements for a background in robotics, but find the most success with engineers excited by the domain and looking to apply their software skills in a new area.

Nice To Have
  • Experience with ROS2, Docker, or robotics software stacks

  • Familiarity with network protocols (SSH, HTTP, MQTT) and debugging networked systems

  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop or system-level testing

  • Background in embedded systems or real-time applications

  • Experience working with robotic systems (6-axis arms, collaborative robots, or similar industrial/research platforms)

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $120,000, depending on experience. We are open to a variety of seniority levels for this role and will build compensation packages that are commensurate with seniority and skill level. Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Standard Bots. All Full-Time Employees are eligible for Employee Stock Options. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees.
