Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP seeks a talented junior associate with one to three years of experience to join our dynamic and accomplished State & Local Tax (SALT) practice in New York. The associate will join a practice that advises and represents a broad range of Fortune 100 clients and industry leading companies on a full spectrum of state and local tax controversy, litigation, consulting, planning, and policy matters.

Key Responsibilities

The new associate will be integrated into existing and new SALT matters, where responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, protests, pleadings, and briefs on SALT issues.
  • Support attorneys in all aspects of multistate audits, administrative appeals, litigation, and settlement negotiations before state tax authorities, tribunals, and state courts.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to advise on complex state and local tax planning and transactions.
  • Participate in practice group meetings, trainings, presentations, and business development initiatives.

Ideal Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an excellent academic background with a JD from an ABA-accredited law school, and LL.M. in Tax (preferred but not required).  Admission to the New York bar, in good standing, is required.  We are looking for a highly motivated associate who demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, and a commitment to professional growth. The candidate must have strong legal research, writing, and communication skills and approach assignments with energy, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in contributing to complex, high-stakes SALT matters.

New York pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on skillset and experience, is $225,000 - $260,000.
