About Blue J

Blue J is the leading generative AI solution for tax professionals and one of Canada's fastest-growing AI companies. Headquartered in Toronto, we're a high-growth B2B SaaS company building industry-leading tax research software that helps accountants find accurate answers to complex tax questions with greater speed and confidence.

Backed by a $122M USD Series D funding round, we're scaling rapidly across North America and the UK while continuing to push the boundaries of what's possible with AI. By combining advanced technology with deep tax expertise, we empower tax professionals to work more efficiently, make better decisions, and deliver greater value to their clients.

A Note on Location

This is a remote-first position, open to candidates legally eligible to work in the United States. For in-person collaboration, you’ll have the opportunity to travel to our Toronto office every quarter to connect with the broader team.

To help you get off to a great start, we bring all new team members together for their first three days of onboarding. If you’re based outside of our local commuting area, Blue J will arrange and cover your travel and accommodation.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Tax Lawyer or Tax Accountant with 4–6 years of experience in federal tax to join our product team as an Associate, Tax Solutions (US). Our ideal candidate is well-versed in the fundamentals of U.S. federal taxation and has developed an area of expertise within federal tax. As an Associate, Tax Solutions(US) joining our team of tax experts, you will use your tax expertise to play a central role in continuing to develop Blue J, our large language model-enabled tax research tool. In this role, you will gain invaluable experience and learn from some of the best in the field of AI and tax.

While we’re an AI company, professional experience in AI is not required. We’re looking for someone who loves tax and is passionate about how technology can make tax law more transparent and accessible. Your expertise will be instrumental in helping our team as we move this mission forward and take Blue J to new heights. We’re a team of passionate, driven, and friendly people all working towards the same goal, and can’t wait to see the contributions you will make!

If this sounds like something that you’re excited about, we would love to meet you!

What You’ll be Doing

Designing and building tax workflows
  • Turn real tax engagements (provision support, compliance reviews, research memos, entity classification, and more) into structured AI workflows.
  • Write and refine workflow instructions so they produce accurate, well-sourced, and consistent output.
  • Test workflows against real fact patterns, find where they break, and fix them.
  • Judge AI-generated tax analysis for accuracy, currency of sources, and whether a practitioner would rely on it.

Implementing with customers
  • Work with tax teams at accounting firms and corporate tax departments to map how they do the work today and where workflows fit.
  • Build and configure workflows for each customer's practice, and guide their teams through implementation.
  • Help customers check that workflow output meets their review standards, and adjust workflows as their needs change.
  • Partner with our Customer Success team, who lead the relationship, demos, and training, as the workflow expert on their accounts.

Shaping the product
  • Be the voice of tax professionals inside Blue J. Turn customer feedback into clear, prioritized product input.
  • Work closely with product, engineering, and data science to improve research quality and workflow features.
  • Document best practices and build reusable playbooks and workflow templates.

Staying sharp on U.S. federal tax
  • Research and summarize primary and secondary sources quickly and accurately.
  • Adapt to new areas of tax law as customer needs change.

What You Offer Blue J

  • You come from tax practice, and you've never been content with how things have always been done. You know how tax teams think, work, and sometimes struggle, and you want to help them work better with technology.
  • A JD, LL.M. in Taxation, or CPA designation
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in U.S. federal income tax
  • Big 4 or accounting firm experience strongly preferred, ideally across more than one service line
  • Exposure to innovation, technology rollout, or process improvement in a tax practice
  • Experience in a technology role is a strong plus: legal or tax tech, a product or solutions role, or a firm innovation or digital team where you helped build, configure, or roll out software
  • Comfort with AI tools, and curiosity about how they work and where they fall short
  • Clear, confident communication with partners, practitioners, and engineers alike
  • The ability to bring structure to messy problems and juggle several customer projects at once
  • An understanding of how accounting firms run: staffing, client delivery, and the pressure to show value
  • High standards without perfectionism. You ship, learn, and improve.

What We Offer You

  • An incredibly exciting opportunity to put your tax and accounting expertise to use in a whole new way. You’ll play a meaningful role in shaping how tax professionals leverage AI, designing and building innovative tax workflows, working directly with customers, and helping develop technology that transforms how tax teams work.
  • A mission-driven culture where your work directly advances clarity, efficiency, and accessibility in tax research.
  • Competitive base salary, stock options, and benefits designed to support you and your family.
  • Flexibility in how you work: primarily remote, with occasional travel to our Toronto office and conferences as needed.
  • A collaborative, ambitious, and supportive team that values innovation, respect, and fun.
  • The excitement of a fast-growing, well-funded company with clear momentum, and the resources to back bold initiatives.

The Core Values that Define Our Culture

  • We are customer-focused
  • We put team over self
  • We are pleasant and playful
  • We are open to better ideas
  • We move fast and fix things

How We Use AI in Our Hiring Process

AI does not make hiring decisions.

We use these tools to support efficiency and consistency, not to replace human judgment and we’re committed to a fair, thoughtful, and equitable experience for every candidate.

Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $120,000 - $140,000 USD per year.

This is a Level 3 in Blue J’s career level framework. We use levels to define the expected scope, autonomy, impact, decision-making, and experience for each role. Final compensation will be set fairly and thoughtfully based on experience, expertise, and alignment with the role’s responsibilities. While all candidates are expected to bring directly relevant experience, the top of the range is typically reserved for individuals who demonstrate exceptional depth in the role’s core competencies, a strong track record of impact in similar environments, and the ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy from day one.
