WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Own Platform Health: Step into a pivotal role owning backend systems architecture and platform health to ensure the team remains robust and redundant.

  • Drive Impactful Projects: Lead the development of highly visible projects that directly influence the experience of tens of thousands of customers.

  • Evolve the Architecture: Be the driving force behind expanding our service-oriented architecture, including building out microservices and migrating to an event-driven framework.

  • Enhance Resilience: Assist in key areas of backend development with a heavy focus on security, scalability, and system resilience to support our growing marketplace.

  • Innovate & Prototype: Use cutting-edge technologies and DDD fundamentals to introduce improvements to our stack, business processes, and workflows via rapid PoCs.

  • Bridge the Gap: Act as a technical partner to internal teams, helping ideate and implement key initiatives that serve both our clients and internal stakeholders.

  •  Support Team Longevity: Provide much-needed leadership and redundancy to a lean team, helping to mitigate burnout and ensure sustainable, long-term development velocity.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Seasoned Systems Architect: You bring 7+ years of professional experience designing and managing complex system applications.

  • Python Power User: You are highly proficient in the Python ecosystem, specifically with Django and GraphQL.

  • Cloud Native: You have deep experience deploying and managing high-scale applications within the AWS Cloud.

  • Architectural Expertise: You possess a strong background in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), microservices, and event-driven pub-sub frameworks.

  • Full-Stack Backend Mentality: You are comfortable across multiple domains, including application architecture, data pipelines/ETL, platform security, and building for massive scalability and resilience.

  • Strategic Collaborator: You excel at working cross-functionally with designers, PMs, data scientists, and business stakeholders to turn high-level ideas into technical reality.

  • NYC Metro Based: You are located in the NYC area (or willing to relocate) and thrive in a collaborative, in-person environment that adheres to NY market hours.

  • Best-Practices Champion: You are a proponent of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and agile methodologies, with a passion for rapid prototyping and continuous improvement.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $120,000 and $165,000 per year at the commencement of employment.  However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
