MusicX is a Product Area within the Music Mission that works across a portfolio of industry and consumer facing products. Our work is anchored around maximizing Spotify's music catalogue, with a strong focus on music-centric video, and helping artists connect more deeply with their fans through tools that support promotion, discovery, and engagement.

As Spotify increases its investment in music videos our team focuses on ensuring that these videos are discoverable by fans, Perform well for artists and are supported by smarter infrastructure that scales as supply grows.

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join the band. As a member of the team, you will be building systems that enable all squads across the company to easily add functionality that enables artists to expand their ability to reach fans.


What You'll Do

  • Build and operate production backend systems that enrich and improve the listening experience of music videos
  • Design, develop, and evolve scalable backend services and APIs that support high-traffic surfaces
  • Architect, develop, and operate Java services and Scio pipelines used by millions of listeners every day
  • Partner closely with product managers, and engineers to solve complex problems and deliver seamless user experiences
  • Contribute within an autonomous, cross-functional squad, contributing to system design, code quality, and operational excellence

Who You Are

  • Have strong fundamentals in computer science and previous experience building backend services at scale.
  • You are proficient in at least one backend programming language such as Java, Scala, Python, or similar. 
  • You are highly adaptable and enjoy picking up new technologies, moving confidently across different parts of systems and tech stacks.
  • You are comfortable using AI-powered developer tools such as Claude as part of your development workflow to learn new technologies, accelerate development, and solve complex problems.
  • You thrive in fast-moving environments, handle change with ease, and communicate clearly with teammates and external partners.

Where You'll Be

  • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within the North Americas region as long as we have a work location. 
  • This team operates within the Eastern time zone for collaboration.

The United States base range for this position is $151,942 - $189,927 plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays. This range encompasses multiple levels. Leveling is determined during the interview process. Placement in a level depends on relevant work history and interview performance. These ranges may be modified in the future.
