THE ROLE: Broadcast Engineer - Live Video Augmentation and Distribution
Genius Sports is seeking a broadcast engineer to help scale and support the operation and delivery of our cutting-edge live broadcast augmentation products across major sports leagues and global media organizations. This role requires an understanding of live sports broadcasting, the ability to collaboratively define, develop and improve system monitoring, recoverability and automation, alongside the willingness to work flexible hours to support live sports events.

You will be working alongside our video augmentation, video transcoder and content teams, in delivering sports augmented live sports broadcasts.

The ideal candidate has worked in broadcasting or in a technical support role, has linux experience and can script in Python or Javascript. There is an expectation that the candidate will grow their knowledge around video protocols alongside their development skills.
This role is ideal for someone who has a technical support background and burgeoning development skills and is interested in building out their development and automation skills required for a devops or development role in the future. Technical expertise, strong live sports production experience, and the ability to guide junior staff while collaborating closely with engineering and client teams.  The role is a hybrid between site reliability engineering, broadcast engineering and product operations. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO: 

  • Oversee, setup and manage both on-premise hardware and cloud-based video pipelines for our live video systems, including sports augmentation
  • Build automations, runbooks and dashboards to provide effective troubleshooting in order to resolve complex live production issues quickly
  • Assist engineering with testing and test automations and simulations as part of  feature development prior to deployment in live environments
  • Serve as the primary technical lead during live sports broadcasts, ensuring stable and high-quality delivery of video, audio, and metadata (ad markers, closed captioning, player tracking, game clocks, etc.).
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to design and propose new features, system improvements, and scalable workflows.
  • Contribute to operational planning, resource allocation, and process documentation to support growth and efficiency.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Experience in video production & transportation, streaming services, or technical support for live events, particularly in the sports industry.
  • Strong understanding of video technology, connectivity, and streaming protocols.
  • Basic knowledge of cloud computing and experience using tools from modern infrastructure providers, with a preference for familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Basic knowledge of network troubleshooting to assist with in venue video delivery.
  • Ability to prioritize, sense of ownership and effectively address multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to think critically and solve problems under pressure.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with clients and team members.
  • Curiosity and strong desire to learn and improve.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including extensive evenings and weekends, as required by sporting events.
  • Basic coding skills with a preference for python/javascript
