About the team

Adaptive ML is building a reinforcement learning platform to tune, evaluate, and serve  specialized language models. We are pioneering the development of task-specific LLMs using synthetic data, creating the foundational tools and products needed for models to self-critique and self-improve based on simple guidelines. Adaptive Engine enables companies to build and deploy the best LLMs for their business. Our founders previously worked together to create state-of-the-art open LLMs. We closed a $20M seed with Index & ICONIQ in early 2024 and are live with our first enterprise customers (e.g., AT&T and Manulife).

About the role

As a Business Development Representative (BDR) at Adaptive ML, you will play a critical role in driving the company’s growth by identifying and engaging with prospective customers. You’ll be the first point of contact for many of our leads—from innovative scaleups to large global enterprises—and your goal will be to spark interest, understand pain points, and set the stage for successful partnerships.

You’ll work closely with our Commercial Staff to articulate the value of Adaptive Engine and how our cutting-edge reinforcement learning technology can accelerate generative AI adoption and unlock real business value. Your work will be instrumental in helping prospects move from initial curiosity to pilot conversations and beyond.

We’re looking for driven, curious, and resourceful individuals who are excited by the challenge of introducing highly technical products to new markets. As one of the early members of our go-to-market team, you’ll have the opportunity to shape our sales process and play a foundational role in our company’s growth. This is an in-person role based at our Toronto or New York office.

Your responsibilities
  • Own top-of-funnel outreach efforts to generate new qualified leads through cold emails, calls, and LinkedIn engagement;

  • Research and identify ideal customer profiles (ICPs) and target accounts across key verticals;

  • Collaborate closely with founders and GTM leadership to refine messaging, outreach strategies, and campaign effectiveness;

  • Experiment with tools, automation, and processes to scale and improve outbound lead generation;

  • Track outreach metrics and provide regular insights to inform strategy and iterate on what’s working;

  • Represent the company with professionalism, curiosity, and enthusiasm in early conversations with prospects.

Your (ideal) background

The background below is only suggestive of the experiences we believe could be relevant. We welcome applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds; do not hesitate to get in touch if you think you could be a great fit, even if the below doesn't fully describe you.

  • 1–2 years of experience in a commercial role at a technology startup, consulting, or venture capital.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Computer Science, or a related field;

  • Proven ability to quickly grasp and communicate technical concepts;

  • A track record of exceeding performance targets or KPIs;

  • Experience using sales tools to manage your work (e.g. Hubspot, Apollo and SalesNavigator)

  • Independence, resilience, and grit in the face of challenges;

  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally with diverse technical and non-technical teams;

  • Genuine passion for generative AI and a drive to contribute to building the foundational technology for training specialized models with reinforcement learning.

Benefits
  • Comprehensive medical (health, dental, and vision) insurance;

  • 401(k) plan with 4% matching (or equivalent);

  • Unlimited PTO — we strongly encourage at least 5 weeks each year;

  • Mental health, wellness, and personal development stipends;

  • Visa sponsorship if you wish to relocate to New York or Toronto.
