What we offer
QuestDB is the low-latency time-series database on open formats. It ingests millions of events per second, computes on live data in milliseconds, and keeps years of history queryable: one SQL engine spanning messaging, stream processing and tiered storage, so teams can act on what is happening and learn from everything that happened.
Our open-source repository has passed 17k GitHub stars and we're the fastest-growing database in our category. QuestDB runs in production at tier-1 banks, exchanges, trading firms, hedge funds, crypto platforms and energy operators across four continents, and is expanding into robotics, aerospace and Physical AI. We recently won Best Trading Analytics Platform at the TradingTech Summit Europe, the first non-legacy vendor to do so.
We hire talented and passionate people who share our mission to empower developers to solve their problems with data. We are building breakthrough technology to power the infrastructure of tomorrow.
- Work with world-class engineers, including two teammates who placed in the top 10 of the One Billion Row Challenge (1BRC).
- We invest in a culture that promotes ownership, autonomy and independent thinking.
- We have transparent leadership and value employees' strategic input.
- Our team is ambitious and tackles the most difficult problems at the deepest data infrastructure layer.
We're hiring a Business Operations Manager to run the financial, commercial, legal and people operations behind QuestDB. You'll be the operational backbone of a small, fast-moving company selling to some of the most demanding buyers in the world.
This is a hands-on generalist role. You won't need to be an accountant or a lawyer: part of the work is coordinating our external accountants, tax advisers and counsel, understanding what they produce, and making sure things get done correctly and on time. You'll own the numbers, the contracts and the processes across our UK and US entities, reporting to the CEO and working cross-functionally across the company. You'll be trusted with high autonomy and expected to use it.
Finance and treasury
- The financial model: cashflow forecasting, runway analysis, ARR tracking and regular reporting to leadership and investors
- Billing and payments across the group: invoicing customers, chasing collections, and processing and paying supplier invoices
- Treasury: banking and payment platforms, FX and cash management
- Oversight of global payroll for employees and contractors, ensuring everyone is paid correctly and on time
- Group-wide tax compliance (UK and EU VAT, US federal and state returns), plus intercompany, transfer pricing and UK R&D tax credit work coordinated with our specialist providers
- Oversight of our external bookkeepers and tax advisers in the UK and US: providing what they need, keeping them to deadlines and reviewing their outputs
- Supporting the CEO with financial and legal preparation for financing processes
Commercial operations
- Review and sign-off on Order Forms before they go out for signature
- New customer setup once an Order Form is signed, from contract records through to billing and renewal tracking
- The renewal cycle for our contract base, from expiry monitoring through to expansion and signature, together with the Head of Sales
Legal and contracts
- Customer agreements: negotiation and redlining with customers' legal and procurement teams, as their primary counterpart at QuestDB
- Vendor and internal agreements, contract lifecycle and signature workflows across the group, and trademark matters with external counsel
People, equity and governance
- The equity lifecycle: grant planning, board approvals, grant agreements, cap table maintenance, exercises and share issuance
- Statutory filings and corporate records across all entities
- Onboarding and offboarding for employees and contractors, from contracts to equipment and access
- Hiring operations, from job posting through to offer
What we're looking for
- 4+ years in a business operations, finance operations or similar generalist role
- A generalist who gets things done: you can hold finance, commercial, legal and people workstreams in parallel, keep them all on deadline, and drive external accountants, advisers and counsel to deliver
- Working knowledge of finance and contracts: enough to maintain a cashflow model, read a set of accounts, review an Order Form or MSA and notice when something looks wrong. Judgement matters more than depth
- Working fluency with AI tools: you use them daily to work through complex material, review your own and others' work, automate repetitive processes and get more done while improving accuracy. You also know when the output needs a second look
- Fast learner on unfamiliar ground: new topics will land on your desk regularly, and you'll need to get up to speed quickly, work out what needs doing, and own the outcome
- Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through: the numbers, the contract wording and the filing deadlines all have to be right
Strong pluses
- Prior startup experience, ideally at an early-stage venture-backed company
- Background in finance, accounting or law
- Experience operating across UK and US entities, including tax, payroll or intercompany matters
- Experience negotiating with legal and procurement teams at large enterprises
What we offer
- Generous equity options package
- Flexible working hours
- Work from our London office or fully remote
- Freedom of choice for your technical equipment
- Truly international team: 10+ nationalities
- Transparent, collaborative, and inclusive culture
- Exciting opportunities for career progression as we grow
- High autonomy - you set your own pace in a collaborative environment
