Description

TransRe is seeking a Catastrophe Analyst to join our Americas Modeling team in New York. This role provides advanced analytics and technical expertise to support underwriting decisions across property catastrophe and specialty reinsurance portfolios. The successful candidate will execute complex modeling analyses, ensure data integrity, and contribute to pricing strategies that enhance TransRe’s understanding and management of catastrophic risk. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Partnering closely with underwriting teams to review and interpret catastrophe model outputs, support pricing decisions, and provide actionable risk analytics
  • Performing rigorous data cleansing, validation, formatting, and modeling analyses across catastrophe excess, pro rata, and per-risk reinsurance programs
  • Engaging with brokers and clients to communicate data requirements, ensuring data completeness and quality, and supporting accurate interpretation of modeling results
  • Continuously refining catastrophe modeling inputs, assumptions, and metrics to enhance underwriting and pricing effectiveness
  • Contributing to model studies by validating scientific assumptions, methodologies, and outputs
  • Identifying opportunities for process and workflow improvements; developing detailed specifications and collaborating with internal development teams to implement system enhancements
  • Supporting operational initiatives designed to elevate data quality and modeling efficiency across the organization

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience working with AIR and/or RMS catastrophe models
  • Strong understanding of property insurance and reinsurance structures, including excess of loss, pro rata, and per-risk programs
  • Proficiency in SQL, including writing queries and stored procedures in support of catastrophe modeling workflows
  • Programming skills including R, VBA, Power BI and Python
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders
     

Work Schedule

TransRe is supportive of an agile work schedule, which may differ based on individual roles, your local office’s practices and preferences marketplace trends, and TransRe’s business objectives. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with 3 days in the office per week, with the remainder of the week remote.

Compensation

In addition to base salary, for this position, TransRe offers a comprehensive benefits package, paid time off, and incentive pay opportunity. The anticipated annual base salary range in New York for this position, exclusive of benefits, paid time off, and incentive pay opportunity is $80,000 to $115,000. This range is an estimate and the actual base salary offered for this position will be determined based on certain factors, including the applicant’s specific skill set and level of experience.
