About Viam

Founded by Eliot Horowitz, co-founder and former CTO of MongoDB, Viam is a novel robotics engineering platform that lets you configure, control, and manage robots intuitively and quickly. We’re inspiring a generation of engineers to solve complicated automation problems with our uniquely powerful suite of software tools.
We’re a ~100-person company headquartered in New York City.

Chief of Staff

We’re looking for a Chief of Staff to work closely with our founder and CEO as Viam grows.

This role sits at the center of how the company operates. You’ll have visibility into the decisions and information that shape Viam, including company strategy, planning, customers, investors, the board, and new business opportunities.

You’ll work across teams and take on important problems that do not fit neatly within one function. The role comes with a high level of access and trust, and we’re looking for someone who is comfortable getting into the details, challenging assumptions, and owning work without an obvious playbook or existing owner.

This is not an Executive Assistant role. Calendar, travel, and inbox management sit elsewhere.

What you'll do
  • Take on high-priority questions and projects for the CEO, including research, analysis, recommendations, and execution.
  • Own projects that span teams or don’t yet have a natural home, such as new markets, partnerships, pricing, or other strategic initiatives.
  • Run Viam’s company planning and leadership rhythm, including planning cycles, leadership meetings, business reviews, and offsites.
  • Keep a clear view of the company’s most important initiatives — who owns them, where they stand, and what’s getting in the way.
  • Work across engineering, product, GTM, and finance to surface misalignment and help resolve issues that cut across functions.
  • Support board and investor work, including company metrics, board materials, investor updates, and financing processes when they arise.
  • Turn insights from customer, partner, and market conversations into useful input for the broader company.
  • Write strategy memos, company communications, and other materials that help people understand important decisions and context.
What we're looking for
  • 6+ years of experience in investment banking, private equity, venture capital, management consulting, startup strategy/BizOps, or a similarly rigorous environment.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills. You’re comfortable building a model, digging into company metrics, and figuring out what the numbers actually mean.
  • Technical fluency. You don’t need to be an engineer, but you should be able to follow technical conversations, ask good questions, and work credibly with engineering and product teams.
  • Excellent writing and the ability to make complicated ideas clear.
  • Experience taking ambiguous projects from an open question to a concrete outcome.
  • Strong judgment about what matters and where to spend time.
  • High ownership and low ego.
  • Comfort challenging senior leaders and forming your own perspective.
  • Fluency with modern AI tools and a habit of using them to make your work better and faster.

The salary for this role is between $180,000 - 220,000 /year.

Full-time Benefits

Viam’s base salary range for this role is posted above. In addition to cash compensation, Viam offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants, health benefits, and more.

  • 100% covered medical/dental/vision insurance plans, commuter benefits
  • 25 days paid vacation and generous holiday observances
  • Free lunch every day that you’re in the office
  • One Medical Membership
  • Citi Bike memberships
  • Monthly wellness stipend to be used for a variety of fitness-related items like gym memberships, fitness classes, fitness equipment, and more
  • Paid parental leave
  • Reproductive Health Benefits, including Fertility Benefits and Abortion Access Travel Benefits
  • Yearly Learning and Development Budget for your own personal learning goals

  • Vision Driven
