Job Description 

The Pearson Virtual Schools Cloud Engineering & Operations team is seeking aCloud Engineer IIto support the development and operation of our cloud native platforms following the migration from legacy data centers. This role is ideal for an early career engineer who is eager to grow cloud, DevOps, and reliability engineering skills while working alongside experienced engineers in a supportive learning environment.

In this role, the Cloud Engineer will contribute to building, operating, and improving scalable and reliable systems across AWS and Azure. The position emphasizes hands-on learning, mentorship, and progressive responsibility.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud infrastructure and services in AWS and Azure under guidance from senior engineers 
  • Assist with Infrastructure as Code development using tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation 
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automation efforts to improve deployment reliability 
  • Assist in monitoring cloud environments and troubleshooting operational issues 
  • Participate in incident response activities and post-incident reviews as a learning opportunity 
  • Collaborate with software engineering and operations teams to support application deployments 
  • Follow established security, reliability, and cost management best practices 
  • Document systems and operational procedures 
  • Participate in an on-call rotation with appropriate training and support

Qualifications – Desired Experience 

  • 2–5 years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, systems engineering, or related roles (including internships or coops) 
  • Foundational knowledge of AWS and/or Azure 
  • Basic experience with Infrastructure as Code concepts 
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows 
  • Exposure to containers such as Docker and Kubernetes is a plus 
  • Experience with at least one scripting or programming language (Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.) 
  • Basic understanding of Linux or Windows systems and networking fundamentals 
  • Strong desire to learn and grow in a collaborative team environment

Preferred Skills 

  • AWS or Azure foundational certifications (or actively working toward one) 
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools 
  • Interest in DevOps, SRE, and automation best practices 

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location.

The salary range is between $52,500 - $80,000. and information on benefits offered is here.
