Position Summary

FalconX is seeking a Compliance Associate, Markets Surveillance to join our Compliance team and play a central role in maintaining the integrity of our trading platform and digital asset markets. In this role, you will independently investigate trade surveillance alerts, assist with token and asset due diligence, and contribute to the ongoing development of our surveillance program as our business scales. You will work at the intersection of compliance, data, AI, and market structure — leveraging vendor-based and FalconX's internal surveillance tooling to detect manipulation, monitor market conduct, and ensure our platform meets the highest regulatory standards across the jurisdictions in which we operate. This role requires equal parts investigative rigor, technical comfort, and clear communication, and offers a unique opportunity to shape surveillance practice at one of the leading institutional digital asset platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Trade Surveillance & Market Abuse Detection

  • Alert Triage & Investigation: Independently review, investigate, and disposition trade surveillance alerts across digital asset markets, including potential wash trading, spoofing, layering, front-running, and insider trading.
  • Pattern Recognition: Analyze trading activity across order books, execution venues, and counterparties to identify manipulative patterns, anomalous behaviors, and coordinated trading schemes in both spot, spot-related derivatives markets, and tokenized real world assets and their derivative markets.
  • Escalation: Identify regulatory red flags and suspicious trading patterns, and prepare comprehensive investigative narratives with supporting evidence to escalate to the Compliance Manager.

Token & Asset Due Diligence

  • New Listing Assessments: Conduct thorough due diligence on tokens and digital assets prior to onboarding, evaluating tokenomics, liquidity profiles, smart contract risk, governance structures, and issuer background.
  • Ongoing Monitoring: Continuously assess listed assets for material changes—regulatory actions, delistings on peer venues, rug-pull indicators, wash trading in underlying markets, or significant shifts in holder concentration—and escalate findings with clear risk narratives.
  • Market Integrity Scoring: Contribute to internal frameworks for assessing asset-level manipulation risk, incorporating on-chain analytics, order book health metrics, and cross-venue liquidity indicators.

Process Optimization & Collaboration

  • AI-Augmented Investigation: Leverage AI-assisted surveillance tooling to investigate alerts and surface risk patterns, contribute to real-world feedback on model outputs, prompt effectiveness, and detection gaps to continuously improve the accuracy and utility of FalconX's surveillance capabilities.
  • Tooling & Automation: Partner with Engineering and Data teams to enhance surveillance platform capabilities, contributing use-case requirements, testing detection scenarios, and validating model outputs.

Regulatory Compliance & Audit Support

  • Regulatory Alignment: Maintain a deep, up-to-date understanding of market abuse regulations across jurisdictions (CFTC, SEC, MiCA, MAS) and digital-asset-specific guidance to ensure surveillance coverage remains fully compliant.
  • Policy Contribution: Partner with the Compliance Manager to update surveillance procedures, detection playbooks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) as regulations and market structures evolve.
  • Audit Readiness: Assist in gathering investigation documentation, alert disposition records, and tuning rationale for internal audits, bank partner reviews, and regulatory examinations.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Investigation Integrity: Maintain thorough, audit-ready investigation records with complete evidence chains, ensuring absolute data confidentiality in line with global privacy standards.
  • Metrics & Reporting: Help compile regular reports on alert volumes, disposition rates, true-positive ratios, and investigation turnaround times to assist leadership in capacity planning and program effectiveness assessments.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Data Science, Criminology, Law, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of direct experience in trade surveillance, market abuse investigations within digital assets, fintech, proprietary trading, or brokerage firm.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience working with surveillance platforms, transaction monitoring systems, and data analysis tools to investigate complex trading behaviors. Demonstrated comfort working with AI-assisted workflows, including LLM-powered investigation tools, prompt-driven analysis, or AI-augmented alert triage — and the critical judgment to identify where AI outputs require human validation or correction.
  • Analytical Mindset: Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to reconstruct trading sequences, identify coordinated activity across accounts, and distinguish legitimate strategies from manipulative conduct.
  • Communication: Crisp verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document complex investigations clearly and explain market conduct expectations to non-compliance stakeholders.

The base pay for this role is expected to be between $111,000 - $140,000 in the New York City Area. This expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. This role will also be eligible for other forms of compensation such as a performance linked bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package. Actual compensation for a successful candidate will be determined based on a number of factors such as location, skillset, experience, qualifications and the level at which the candidate is hired.
