ABOUT THE TEAM AND ROLE

theSkimm is looking for a Health Editor. You'll be responsible for brainstorming, editing, and fact checking health news and evergreen content at theSkimm. This position provides the opportunity to be part of building a new vertical at the company, and would report into the Senior Editor of Content Development. 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Editing a consistent output of health content – from explainers on how the news affects your body and health to evergreen guides – written in the format and tone of theSkimm.
• Project-managing daily, weekly, and monthly health content initiatives across multiple platforms 
• Working with the news, video, audio, and social teams to maintain a cohesive voice for health content across all Skimm platforms
• Collaborating with the marketing and product teams on potential health products that help women prioritize, plan, and save for their future, especially as it pertains to fertility and family planning
• Working with editorial leaders to continue to develop theSkimm’s unique perspective on health and wellness content for female millennials
• Collaborating with the sales and branded teams to incorporate our Well content into existing and new revenue streams

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• 5+ years experience in health and wellness writing or editing specifically
• Strong journalistic judgment with a specific eye for fact-checking standards
• Experience in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to anticipate and respond quickly to change
• Experience crafting promotional packaging for content (think: email plugs, social posts, etc.)
• Solid understanding of a broad range of health topics, including, nutrition, mental health, fertility, and health insurance, plus how to vet scientific research
• Ability to self-motivate and be a team player across multiple departments
• Ability to write in theSkimm’s voice 
• Passion for theSkimm and its mission
• Bachelor's Degree
• What we’re not looking for is someone experienced in reporting fitness and beauty trends, hacks, and products
