Technical Curriculum Developer (New York)
Databases are the beating heart of every business in the world.
Cockroach Labs is the team behind CockroachDB, an open source, distributed SQL database. We aim to build infrastructure that keeps pace with the world, so developers can focus on what matters most: building the best products. Join us on our mission to Make Data Easy. Are you ready to aim high and build to last?
About the Role
Cockroach Labs is looking for the first Curriculum Developer to join our growing Education team. Reporting to the Director of Training, you will drive our customer facing education efforts in collaboration with both our engineering and product teams. This curriculum will enable our existing customers to better use CockroachDB and decrease ramp up time for new customers.
You Will
- Produce engaging & high-quality training courses and content (both e-learning and live classroom delivery) for existing and potential users to ramp up on CockroachDB.
- Evaluate customer training requirements, and turn those requirements into a roadmap with clearly scoped courses that have well defined learning paths.
- Develop supplemental and supporting courseware and documentation, including workshops, hands-on labs, and webinars.
The Expectations
In your first 30 days, you will learn about CockroachDB both in terms of its internals, from the customer’s perspective/experience, using the documentation, training materials, and the technical staff. You’ll also give one half-hour presentation on a part of CockroachDB and spin up on the tooling we use to create courseware.
3 months in, you will have scripted and recorded ten 3-5 minute lesson videos on using CockroachDB, built one graded exercise for that training and delivered one classroom training for a customer.
You Have
- 3+ years of experience as a technical instructor, curriculum developer, instructional designer, or similar technical position.
- Passion for developing and delivering educational experiences that meet the real-world needs of customers, and for building internal and external relationships to get feedback and identify opportunities.
- Proficiency with SQL, Linux, and one or more programming languages (Python, Go, Java, etc.).
- B.S. in Computer Science or similar.
- The ability to engage with various audiences and travel 20%.
