About the Role

The New York City office of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., has an opening for an experienced associate with 4–7 years of experience representing cooperative and condominium and boards in various transactional and corporate matters.

This role offers the opportunity to serve as outside general counsel to boards on a wide range of governance, finance, compliance, contractual and operational matters, while working closely with experienced practitioners in a collaborative team environment within the firm real estate group.

Responsibilities

  • Advise condominium and cooperative board of directors on governance matters, including reviewing by-laws, proprietary leases, declarations, house rules, and facilitating annual meetings and elections
  • Serve as primary legal counsel to boards on day-to-day operational and compliance matters for city and state regulated cooperatives within the Mitchell-Lama program
  • Provide guidance on regulatory and compliance issues, including matters involving city, state and federal statutes, environmental regulations, municipal building codes and local laws
  • Counsel boards on corporate governance, financial matters and fiduciary duties
  • Negotiate and draft contracts, including construction, engineering, architectural, property management agreements
  •  Negotiate access agreements and collaborate with firm litigation department
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of experience representing cooperative and condominium boards
  • Strong knowledge of cooperative and condominium laws, governance, and compliance
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and work both independently and collaboratively
  • Admission to the New York Bar required
