Company overview

Consumer Edge is the leading provider of consumer data for some of the largest hedge funds, venture capital and private equity firms, and corporations in the United States and Europe. We arm our clients with actionable consumer, competitive, and market insights that drive better investment and strategic decisions.

The Opportunity

We're building BasketView - an omnichannel consumer panel offering fresher data, better digital integration, and more granular insights than existing products in the market. We need a panel methodology expert who can take our multiple raw transaction datasets and architect statistically sound, defensible, scalable panels that can stand up to scrutiny from the most demanding CPG customers.

What You'll Do

Panel Construction & Methodology

  • Design and implement household panel weighting schemes using demographic, geographic, and behavioral attributes
  • Develop projection algorithms to scale panel observations to universe estimates (U.S. households, CPG categories)
  • Create panel balancing logic to ensure representativeness across key dimensions (income, age, household size, geography, shopping channels)
  • Handle data fusion challenges: integrating various datasets
  • Build attrition models and develop strategies to maintain panel health over time

Quality Assurance & Validation

  • Create comprehensive QA frameworks to validate panel accuracy against known benchmarks (Census, syndicated sources)
  • Develop ongoing monitoring for panel bias, coverage gaps, and data quality issues
  • Design margin-of-error calculations and confidence interval methodologies for customer-facing outputs
  • Build auditable documentation of all methodological decisions and assumptions

Technical Execution

  • Write production-quality code (SQL, Python/R) to implement panel calculations at scale
  • Work with engineering teams to productionize panel processing pipelines
  • Optimize computational efficiency for panel generation across large transaction datasets
  • Create automated reporting on panel health metrics and statistical properties

Methodology Documentation & Defense

  • Author customer-facing white papers explaining Consumer Edge panel methodology
  • Prepare technical responses to RFPs and customer methodology questions
  • Support sales cycles where customers challenge panel accuracy or methodology

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Manager on commercial packaging decisions (what panels/cuts to offer)
  • Work with data science teams on household identity resolution and transaction classification
  • Collaborate with engineering on data pipeline architecture and scaling requirements
  • Provide technical guidance to customer success teams fielding methodology questions

What You Bring

Required Experience

  • 5-7+ years building consumer panels, household panels, or syndicated data products
  • Direct experience at Circana (formerly IRI or Nielsen), NIQ, Numerator, Kantar, or market research firms strongly preferred
  • Deep expertise in panel weighting methodologies: raking, propensity scoring, post-stratification, calibration
  • Experience with large-scale transaction or behavioral data processing

Statistical & Methodological Expertise

  • Strong foundation in sampling theory, survey statistics, and representativeness evaluation
  • Understanding of bias correction techniques and how to validate panel accuracy
  • Knowledge of U.S. demographic distributions (Census, ACS) and retail/CPG market structures
  • Familiarity with longitudinal panel challenges: attrition, panel conditioning, temporal weighting

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level SQL for large-scale data manipulation
  • Proficiency in Python or R for statistical analysis and methodology implementation
  • Comfortable working with messy, real-world transaction data

Communication & Documentation

  • Excellent written communication - can explain complex methodology to non-technical audiences
  • Experience creating methodology white papers, RFP responses, or audit documentation
  • Ability to defend methodological decisions to skeptical customers or competitors
  • Comfortable presenting to technical and business stakeholders

You will be successful at CE if you have:

  • A detail-oriented mindset
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities at once.
  • An internal sense of urgency and ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Benefits & perks

We are a remote-first company with a distributed environment and flexible working arrangements. We believe that distributed workers should be first-class citizens. We also have an office in New York if offices are your thing.

Salary

The annual base salary for this role is between $165,000 - $200,000 based on experience, with the opportunity for a performance-based bonus, company equity, 401(k) matching, paid parental leave, flexible and generous time off, work-from-home flexibility, and subsidized health benefits.
