Counterparty Credit Risk Officer (FIG - Insurance Focus)

About the Team:

Join our Financial Institutions Group (FIG) Credit Risk Team, a critical part of Natixis's Second Line of Defense (2LoD). We are responsible for rigorously assessing counterparty credit risk across the Americas for key sectors including banks, broker-dealers, CCPs, insurance companies, and pension funds. This role offers a deep dive into the insurance sector, where you will play a pivotal part in safeguarding the bank's financial health.

About the Role:

As a Counterparty Credit Risk Officer, you will conduct in-depth due diligence and analysis for credit requests, primarily focused on trading activities. You will develop comprehensive written Risk Opinions, which may be presented to the Credit Committee, ensuring that Natixis balances business growth with prudent risk management and minimizes potential credit losses.

What You'll Do:

  • Conduct Counterparty Due Diligence: Perform thorough assessments of insurance companies and other financial institutions operating in the US, Canada, and Latin America.

  • Develop Risk Opinions: Prepare and articulate well-reasoned written risk opinions, presenting a compelling case for your recommendations and constructively challenging First Line of Defense analysis when necessary.

  • Present to Senior Stakeholders: Effectively present findings and recommendations to Senior Management and Credit Committees.

  • Engage with Clients: Conduct client due diligence calls or visits, serving as a professional representative of the bank.

  • Define Credit Terms: Recommend appropriate credit terms and conditions within Trading Documentation, and meticulously identify key risks within financing transactions.

  • Stay Ahead of Trends: Proactively monitor industry trends and macro-economic issues that could impact the portfolio, recommending strategic adjustments for individual clients or client groups.

  • Understand Regulatory Landscapes: Maintain a strong grasp of the regulatory environments in which counterparties operate. A deep understanding of the US and Bermudian insurance regulatory landscape is essential.

A Little About You:

  • You possess a robust understanding of due diligence and analysis requirements for financial institution counterparties and capital markets instruments.

  • You excel at identifying and articulating potential risks and positive attributes of financial requests, with a clear objective of supporting business objectives while mitigating undue risks and credit loss.

What You'll Bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related business discipline.

  • A graduate degree is a plus, but not a requirement.

  • Fluency in English, both written and oral.

  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive credit experience within Financial Institutions (either First Line of Defense or Second Line of Defense).

  • A strong knowledge and understanding of capital markets instruments is essential.

  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • A self-starter mentality, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with advanced skills in MS Excel.

  • Effective communication skills, encompassing written, oral, and listening abilities, paired with strong interpersonal skills. A demonstrated ability to convey thoughts clearly and succinctly in writing is paramount.
