About the Position

We’re looking for Software Engineers who are comfortable working with a range of technologies and excited to expand their horizons on our Cross-Platform team. While Jane Street is known for working in and on OCaml, we also program in other languages and provide software solutions on a range of platforms for nearly every individual in the firm.

Microsoft Windows is our primary desktop OS and much of our core infrastructure is provided by Windows servers. We also work in Linux, OCaml, F#, and .Net environments, bridging all of these technologies to approach a variety of challenges across the firm.

We don’t expect you to know all of them right away, but it’s likely that in this position, you will become proficient in many over time. On any given day, you might:

  • Work with traders to write applications that increase their productivity on Windows
  • Develop tools to ensure no trading happens without proper supervision
  • Build software to help our IT teams track and monitor the firm’s hardware and software, as well as the programs that enable continuity in a hybrid work environment
  • Help to develop our .Net base libraries, both those native to Windows and across platforms, and our in-house software development tools, with an eye toward increasing performance and efficiency
About You
  • Top-notch programming skills
  • Deep experience with—and a love for—technology. There's no specific list, we're interested in everything from systems administration to programming language design.
  • Curiosity and a willingness to learn and admit mistakes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Software engineering at Jane Street is highly collaborative and we are looking for people who can work effectively in small, close-knit teams.

We don't expect you to have experience with functional programming, F#, OCaml, Linux, Windows, or finance. We’re happy to hire talented engineers and teach them what they need to know.

If you're a recruiting agency and want to partner with us, please reach out to [email protected].
