This is a remote position, but candidates must live in or near Dallas, TX, or Anchorage, AK, or be willing to relocate if offered a permanent position. 


InfoDefense is an Authorized SkillBridge Organization. This position is open to personnel transitioning out of the military. The objective is to facilitate a smooth transition to a civilian career in Cybersecurity. The Cybersecurity
Internship Program was designed to provide exposure to private sector business as well as a flexible schedule to accommodate out-processing. The internship will last for a minimum of 90 days. All candidates are required to pass a background check prior to beginning work and must be approved for the program by a commanding officer.


Job Description

We are looking for a motivated self-starter that is passionate about cybersecurity and has a strong desire to be an integral part of a dynamic team. The Cybersecurity Internship Program is designed to offer interns business and technical exposure to core elements of the cybersecurity discipline, including:


  • Network Security (including firewalls and NIDS/NIPS)
  • Identity & Access Management (including single sign-on, public key infrastructure, privileged access management)
  • Security Operations Center (including security information & event management)
  • Endpoint Threat Protection Technologies
  • Cyber Incident Response Planning, Training, and Execution
  • Governance, Risk and Compliance (including policies, standards, procedures, risk analysis)
  • Security Awareness
  • Threat and Vulnerability Management
  • Security Audit and Assessment
  • Social Engineering and Red Team Exercises
  • Security Metrics and Reporting

Each intern is expected to participate in industry-related activities and customer meetings as well as author three 1,000-word articles/blogs on cybersecurity-related topics.


Qualifications

Desire and ability to learn quickly, a great attitude, and good work ethic. To be considered for this internship, the candidate must be currently serving in the United States military, be eligible for the SkillBridge program, seeking an associate, bachelor, or master's degree in cybersecurity, computer engineering, or a related discipline, and have had exposure to core information security functions, including network and application vulnerability testing, role-based access control (RBAC), security information and event management, and/or computer incident management. To be successful, a candidate should be proficient in Linux and Windows, and have at least two years of information technology experience and exposure to three or more of the following security technologies:


  • Linux Bash and Python Scripting
  • Networking
  • Microsoft Windows (including Active Directory and Azure)
  • NIST SP 800-171, SP 800-53, RMF, or CSF
  • Firewalls, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and malware protection technology
  • Network vulnerability testing
  • Encryption technologies such as IPSEC
  • SIEM technologies such as Splunk, LogRhythm or Elasticsearch
  • Network+, CCNA, Security+ or other cybersecurity related certifications are desired

Cybersecurity interns are provided with a laptop computer, docking station, monitors, keyboard and mouse, camera, and headset for remote working. Most hands-on instruction and on-the-job training are delivered using Microsoft Teams, although the opportunity for interacting on-site may also be provided. Interns must have a home office environment and sufficient Internet connectivity to enable remote work.


Interns can successfully perform the skills described in the training with minimal assistance. Evaluations are provided as either "Satisfactory" or "Unsatisfactory".
