Gradient AI:

Gradient AI is revolutionizing Group Health and P&C insurance with AI-powered solutions that help insurers predict risk more accurately, improve profitability, and automate underwriting and claims. Our SaaS platform taps into one of the industry’s largest data lakes—tens of millions of policies and claims—to deliver deep, actionable insights. Trusted by leading carriers, MGAs, TPAs, and self-insured employers, Gradient AI has grown rapidly since our founding in 2018. Backed by $56M in Series C funding, we're scaling fast—and it's an exciting time to join the team.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Data Engineer to join our team and help build and maintain scalable data pipelines that power our ML and AI products for health insurance clients. You’ll work with large, complex healthcare data sets including medical claims, pharmacy data, and eventually EHR, lab, and bioinformatics data.

The ideal candidate is a lifelong learner with strong Python and SQL skills, experience (or interest) in healthcare and bioinformatics data, and a desire to work creatively with AWS tools.

How you will make an impact:

  • Design, build, and maintain data systems to support ML/AI models while ensuring healthcare data security and compliance (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Build tools to extract, validate, and process diverse healthcare data sources (medical claims, pharmacy, future EHR, lab data, etc.).
  • Collaborate with data scientists to prepare large, complex health data sets for modeling, with a focus on data quality and integrity.
  • Support production data operations, workflow management, and data pipeline reliability in a healthcare setting.
  • Build scalable infrastructure for data extraction, transformation, and loading using SQL, AWS services, and other cloud technologies.
  • Act as a subject matter resource in health and bioinformatics data needs and requirements.

Skills needed to succeed:

  • BS in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related quantitative field; 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong professional experience with Python, SQL, and Airflow.
  • Experience working with healthcare or medical data is a plus.
  • Desire and ability to learn new tools and technologies (e.g. Redshift, Tableau, AWS Lambda).
  • Bonus for experience with distributed compute platforms (Apache Spark, Databricks, Snowflake).
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS EC2) and Linux, including shell scripting.
  • Experience in insurtech or AI/ML product environments is a bonus.

What We Offer:

  • A fun, team-oriented startup culture.
  • Generous stock options - we all get to own a piece of what we’re building.
  • Unlimited vacation days.
  • Flexible schedule that supports working from home.
  • Full benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid paternal leave, and more.
  • Ample opportunities to learn and take on new responsibilities.

We are an equal opportunity employer.
